\[Superseded by 0.6.4.4\] Feathercoin 0.6.4 - Hard Fork at block 33,000

I estimate about 1 month at this rate to find 175 blocks. Is it realistic?
We’ll get things moving one way or another before then.
There are some mining groups out there that could make our blocks move very quickly. This was my concern, that setting the change too close could actually expose us to attack. We have been attacked from so many angles already and it would be no surprise if someone boosted our hash to get a hard fork in before the exchanges pools did.
Coinotron is getting more hash power for Feathercoin. We do have hashes behind us and we will get there.

You are all underestimating how long the GPU miners in the other coins can handle the high difficulty of the other coins. They are going to flood back in especially as prices start falling again in BTC, LTC. At that point they will find they can’t abuse this community as easily as the others.
Stop dreaming and get back on the ground :P What happens if they don’t flood back to FTC, instead they go to CNC or WorldCoin or whatever the new fancy profitable coin is?
CNC has no community whatsoever. WorldCoin is RitalinCoin. AltCoinWars is over at this point.

I was initially heartened by this news, but now watching the blocks tick by has become painful, and the current discussions about how 2 hours between blocks and reaching it sometime in June seem to be much more accurate than the initial estimate of a week. The stats page still says 30 minutes, but obviously that’s not right.
Any chance of moving that target block up any so we can reach it in a reasonable timeframe?
But if they have that kind of hash power and they want to hurt FTC, they simply need to launch a 51% attack.
-
51% attack is mainly for getting away with physical theft. It’s not a sustainable attack. It’s more like engine problems than totaling your car.
it’s not that it happened it’s that it can happen.
51% is not cyanide. it’s herpes.

Block 33,000 is soo far away :( 168 blocks is a looong wait and the network is still slowing down. I think the fork should have been at 32900 taking into account the slowing network. :'( I believe most people who are still interested are keeping an eye on FTC and would be willing to update their clients once again. What do you guys think?
lets add 4HG/s to FTC @ coinotron.com
Coinotron down :/
-
33,000 does seem like a quite a wait but we will get there. Considering the current network speed 32,900 would have been a better target. We are not going to produce another client as this is going to create additional problems on a technical front and it just does not look good.
Freicoin recently released another fork aimed at a closer block and got unstickied at BitcoinTalk at the same time. They may end up with people running three different clients on their network. We can not expose ourselves to that kind of risk.

No it’s not going down, now it shows 3 day(s), 10 hour(s), 50 min, 53 sec -
Keep plowing everyone… it just gives us more time to work on back-end items.
Saturday/Sunday
- Taking a break
Monday
- Will have first draft complete for contest
- Picking up the $1000 worth of money orders… will take pic to use for promotion
- Will continue with the gamer miner project
If you guys keep pushing and making an effort to let people know about your site, we could hit 1000 members. Could you imagine the difference on impact our press release would have if we hit 1000 members right around the time the hard-fork hits? Wow!

No it’s not going down, now it shows 3 day(s), 10 hour(s), 50 min, 53 sec
It did show higher than that before. I am getting the stats page to be adjusted for a smaller selection of blocks to more accurately show time per block and time to retarget.
-
It’s gonna be another week.
Just sit back. Every coin is getting burned. LTC just went down in difficulty.
-
Nicked an old card from a friend for the weekend - an extra 70k Hash/s for the push.
Think this will blow over after the alt coin a day craze is over. Currently Worldcoin is eating up a lot of hashes but will drop soon.
-
Weirdness: Network hashrate down. give-me-ftc.com hashrate multiplying. Very interesting.
-
The stats page has now been updated to get the block time and retarget time from the last 120 blocks so not always the last retarget. If the retarget is less than 120 block before the current block, then it will count back to the retarget.
Expected Time per Block 0 day(s), 1 hour(s), 7 min, 41 sec
Time to Retarget 7 day(s), 8 hour(s), 0 min, 42 sec -
Thx, Bushstar. It’s important to have an idea when the coin will settle. WorldCoin is trying to offer a technological solution to a management problem. We don’t need 15 second confirmations. Most people wait longer to have the automated self-check out compute a total. It’s a really thin band-aid.
Also for those who argued for us to stay on with the old algorithm:
It is now 152 blocks before retarget @33000. This is going to take 7 days.
It is now 1524 blocks before the original retarget. That comes to 70 days.
There has been a regular decline in hashrate. 7 days could extend to 10, 70 to 100.Let’s learn from this experience. Worrying about hypothetical issues about versions persisting too long and telling people to just believe in the coin was too rhetorical and did not take into account the facts: THE MATH. We should make a graph of the hashrate drop and draw some measurable conclusions about confidence and tension in how the coin was perceived.
It appears I was right on the money with serraz’s pool. Even though hashrates have gone down, his ftc pool approaches 25% capacity much like his ltc pool. These miners stick around. We’ll see what coinotron miners do to the hashrate.

zerodrama brings a good point, what is the ‘taboo’ of updating the client software frequently? ie what is the down side to making frequent changes? many softwares have optional automatic updates, is there any non-technical reasons why crypto-wallets don’t write their installers to offer this?
-
Hi Bush, when your back please update Pools running Feathercoin 0.6.4 and include wemineftc.com, Cheers
-
With cryptocoins and 51% it really is about making a conscious choice. Which is why Bitcoin did not force the update. Otherwise they would look like central bank.
