I want To Start A New Member Bonus Giveaway ..

I know I am still pretty new around here BUT I am very active on the boards and would like to do more to help the promotion of the forum and Feathercoin …
With this in mind I would like to set up a bonus scheme for new members whereby they will receive 1 FTC when they add there Feathercoin address to a stickied post in the newbies section.
The only requirement would be that they have introduced themselves and added themselves to the map etc.
I would kindly request that other current members could help by making a donation of 5 FTC to the pot to fund the endeavour. To this end I already have a second wallet setup and I have deposited 20 FTC to get the ball rolling.

[/quote]Yes I was already thinking about this issue … So as a counter, if I am to do something like this on a permanent basis, then I would have to include extra criteria like:
Must be added to the map, a member for 1 week and of made 10 posts

If it’s there is one “mode of failure” Feathercoin does not suffer from it’s “lack of members”.
We should be thanking all the hard work by the old members with good Reps, in getting Feathercoin and the forum and guides to this level for new members.
It is important we attract people who are part of the open source process to build the infrastructure and not just encourage “Traders”.
It is also a common error in business to prematurely attract uneducated customers before the infrastructure is fully ready to support them. Giving people coins before there is any where to spend them is of putting and can generate a bad reputation.

To be honest I am a bit disappointed with your response there mate :( just trying to do something positive and be an active part of the community.
Surely the more people that become actively involved with FTC the better, regardless of wether they are miners or even speculators …
You could have people come on here, register, never obtain a single coin and then go elsewhere.
If by giving a coin to a few newbies, those who have shown willing by making some posts and marking themselves on the map, if this gives them enthusiasm, and gets them interested and maintaining future interest, then surely it is worth it! -

[/quote]I agree with you. If it makes the difference between 1% higher conversion rate, and it costs a few dollars, it’s worth it. Assuming what wrapper is saying (who I have a deep and abiding respect for, he’s a very smart guy, so don’t get down on him) is true, then not being able to get anything would be even more off-putting. At the very least, those who are enthusiastic enough to do it will have the incentive to participate, and the rest of them can delete their wallets, making my coins more valuable.
I’m not going to lie: I’ve downloaded more than a few alt-coin clients just to receive a give-away. If later the coin became traded, I sold/arbitraged them, and the rest were promptly forgotten about. It’s a gateway to entry. Besides, there’s a great place to spend them: The marketplace.
If 1 FTC appeals to you, and someone here can spare it, I say make it rain. If you’re not crazy about the idea, don’t donate, and in this way people can vote with their wallets. Rapid adoption is the goal, and while a administration DoS is a concern, it’s not so much of a concern that we’ve turned off new user registration. When that happens, we can talk about how to slow down.

First of I want to be clear on one thing, I honestly love your enthusiasm, wanting to make things even better for newcomers. Never stop with that mentality! :)
With that said, I’m not sure giving away free coins is the best way to attract the right kind of people FTC need right now. Free cash tends to attract greedy people, greedy people that get their hands on even more cash tend to become…somewhat unpleasant to deal with.
I truly hope and wish for FTC to grow bigger and bigger, but as people have mentioned before FTC right now is in a state where it’s growing steadily but not to much or to fast.
We don’t want to end up with a toxic community built mainly on greedy people, like some other cryptos :PHowever, your basic idea of rewarding newcomers when they achieve things is a good idea, but can’t the rewards be in another form than free FTC? :)
Achievement mechanics works well in other areas (games, serious gaming to name a few areas), why not create our very own achievement system that rewards people for doing stuff that’s good in general for FTC as a community, currency and philosophy? :) -
The one feathercoin I received for free has given me the motivation I need to drop everything and devote my entire life to promoting feathercoin ;D seriuosly though it was nice :)
