Mobile Wallets
-
Evening All,
Having read a few posts over the last few days about how we increases adoption of the mighty feather, and this has got me thinking.
I asked the question in the Oxford Blue meet up thread and the answer was that there is an Android mobile wallet but we don’t have an Apple offering, given the market share Apple have on these devices I think we are missing something here!
If we make it easier to spend, or receive the feather adoption becomes simpler for every day people who have no or little knowledge about mining and trading etc… So my thoughts are that if we get the mobile wallets tied down and sorted we are one step further along the path to increasing adoption.
I have no knowledge to write any app of any kind let alone something to work on an Apple or Windows device, but what I am prepared to do is invest the initial $ 99 required for a developer account with Apple so these things can be tested and when ready published. I’m also prepared to do any testing required as I have access to a fair few Apple products.
Now as for the funding I think I may have come up with a cunning plan! Over the next couple of days I’m hoping to bring a P2Pool on-line from a Data Centre here in the UK and my proposal is to charge 1.5% fee for using it, then from the 1.5% take .5% to help with the running costs ect leaving 1% to be put towards the funding of the development of the app, testing, etc this will not be used to purchase the developer account, I’m quite prepared to take the risk on that myself.
So I’m looking for an app dev to work with on this little venture, or to be shot down in flames and told it will never work and to get my head out of the clouds.
I’m also looking for some miners to send some hash power toward the pool when it’s up and running to raise the funding. Once this little project is complete I’m happy to keep the pool up and running and will work with the Admin team to find the next suitable project for the donations to go towards if they are up for the idea.
Anyways guys and gals your thoughts please

Apple makes a point of removing all wallet apps from the App store. It’s a sad situation.
This is probably why: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-57617332-37/apple-patent-filing-reveals-digital-wallet-system/
You see, it’s not that Applie hates Bitcoin, Apple hates wallets because they want you to use theirs.

Well thats buggered that idea up then :(
I do like my Apple kit as it just seams to work as a solution for me, but all is not lost as we get Android from work and the Android wallet seams to work well for me at the moment, I was just hoping to increase the foot print of it and then maybe move on to a Windows wallet as well.
I’m still willing to work with the P2Pool server idea to raise a bit of funding for other projects if anyone is interested.

Surely a wallet app could still be written and published in Cydia?
-
The solution is going to have to be web based, built off of CoinPunk or something.
I must admit I was thinking along the same lines. But haven’t had chance yet to look into how it works and if there are any limits on size of payment etc…
This was not just about me being able to spend on food and drink at the Oxford Blue, this was about having a platform for everyday traders to use for payments, and making things as simple as possible! If we try going down the feather tipper route the trader has to have a twitter account, a father tipper account, and so does the person making the payment, it’s all of a sudden sounding a little complicated now where as a simple wallet app that they had to do nothing with other than install and away they went may just be able to get adoption up.

That’s correct. A Wallet on some iDevices is better than a wallet on none.
But I’m aiming for simplicity for the user, I’ve jailbroken iPhones in the past and back then it was a total nut ache! unless it’s got a lot simpler the average Joe or Josephine isn’t going to be interested in it.
The latest jailbreak tool requires the user to press a single button and the wait for the jailbreak to complete. If you get the wallet app into one of the main repository’s (easier than you might think) then it’ll show in Cydia by default.
I really think it is worth considering. There is a hell of a lot of jalibroken iDevices out there.

But why target some iPhone users with an app, when you can target ALL smartphone users (not just iPhone) with a web site?

I haven’t seen UKMark for a bit, but I’m pretty sure we already sort of have this: https://cryptoknox.com/
No?
I was under the impression that storing your coins on a website was not the best idea. Hasn’t there been multiple instances of website owners absconding with their users coins?

I not too sure about that, a lot of people have twitter already. All they have to do is go to feathertipper.com and log in while they’re logged into Twitter. Now they have a wallet. -
Of course it will open up the possibility to have a mobile wallet for a minority of iPhone users but the general mainstream populous of iPhone customers will never even consider jailbreaking. Hell some wont even know what the term means lol. In the long-term it is these non tech-savvy people that we want to become introduced to the world of crypto currencies. So it is indeed a big shame that Apple are locking us out from producing a mobile solution for their customers.
