FTC's future

… and for the wallet I found this design for "dem"coin. Just the fact, that they tried to look different than all the other boring wallets, was a good sign.

I dont mean, that the wallet of feathercoin has to look like this. But a light new design with a feather would attract the users!

100% agree with hansmeiser valuable feedback and insight into how people from a non tech background can percieve a crypto on first impression, because we’d all agree for a crypto to be properly successful it needs to please a wide audience. a wider audience then just the bitcointalk coins try to please and gather feedback from.
(though funny we all have different taste, I like litecoin.org and hate ripple.com website).
even though a website has to look pleasing to the eye I can not overestimate how simple/basic it still has to be to attract a wide audience, not everyone has highspeed internet or a super grunty computer. too flashy a website don’t cut it when you need it to be accessable to everyone.
-
Here is my opinion!
I can’t tell you, what killerapp you should invent. But I can tell you how I, as a naive invester made my crypto choices.
Most people who will invest money in Bitcoin (and feathercoin) in the future wont be tech guys. These people will probably
behave like I did in my early days. They understand the philosophy of cryptocurrencies, but dont know the difference of
“Proof of Work” and “Proof of Stack” ;-)
So for me, when I made my first choices, I ALWAYS watched some Youtubevids about a specific coin and then
visited the Website of that coin. And as stupied as it sounds, the websit impression was key for my final decision.
Here are some thoughs, what I am missing;-)
Website:
-
seems not uptodate. Last newsletter is from 24. Mai 2014
-
pictures (header) is in low quality.
-
the whole desigh does not support the “feather”-logo. Too dark and heavy, a feather is white and light.
http://aphotoaday.sandhillsnaps.org/wp-content/blogs.dir/3/files/november/feather-bw.jpg
-
there is no story behind the feather-logo.
-
video about how to buy feathercoin. Tell the people, that they probably buy Bicoins first and the go to cryptsy.
-
Sometimes there is just too much to read. For example “meet the team”. Nobody is gonna read all of that!
-
The price of feathercoin should show up at the frontpage!
-
Video how to install the client and how it works. Remember, the investors are tech-dummies.
-
The Client looks like all the other clients of the early coins. Grey and borring. The feather-symbol is not visible.
-
News banner like ethereum.org. Calem said in the forum about some future developments. Why dont you make
a secret out of it? Just tell the world what it’s about, with leaving out all the details.
Hope I coud help you with my comments. First impression is what counts. As long a there is no activity visible on the website,
I of couse hesitate to further invest in feathercoin.
Feathercoin was one of the first coins, so there are a lot of people still hold they feathercoins
On Cryptsy all feathercoins to buy make a total of $1500. The Marketcap of feathercoin is $180’000.
So there is less than 1% of the coins for sale. Thats still a good situation.
So please dont get lost 100% in technical discussions. The marketing (Website) counts a lot. Britney Spears was never a good musician ;-)
Greetings Hans
What does this mean for feathercoin!
Before inventing new killerapps for feathercoin, you have to make sure that www.feathercoin.com is uptodate!!
This is sadly not the case! The last newsletter is a long time ago. As a investor, this would tell me, that the core
developers are gone.
+1 :D
And welcome to the community. A bit late, but I’ve somehow overseen your initial post :(

Your will probably think that I have gone totally nuts, but thats what i finaly think.
A Year ago i told my girlfriend, that I dont understand that the cryprocoin-developer-teams dont hire any cartoon-holywood-artists that in a very simple way animate the surface of the coinexplorers, of the walletclient, and the coinwebsite itself.
What I mean, is that a coin needs a real face (like dogecoin) and a funny story behind the coin. Even dogecoin has a frontface (the cute dog), but the story for the coin is missing. When I thought about that in relation to feathercoin, the first thing that came to my mind, also its probably not the perfect story, is that every feather comes from a bird. So a bird without feathers is missing something and feels nude. So who is this bird who lost its feather, does he have a face? Probably the bird (a empty feathercoinadress) is looking for some feathers, ore a “feather rich” bird wants to give away some of his feathers"
The cartoonmovie that fits to that story is the pixar trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMfeWyVBidk
I dont wanna say, that feathercoin needs a expensive hollywood-art that costs a million bugs.
But I fact, some visual animation could bring the effect, that the people can remember the feathercoin.
I am not a graficdesigner, but the following pics probably can demonstrate what I mean. It has to be really simple.
But Feathercoin needs a face and a story for the coin.

Just for illustration!!! Feathercoin has to come with its own idea!!!

Animation for the Feathercoin Client

Lol that’s awesome :)

Hahaha, I love it.

I miss iawgoM, he was our graphic.

+1 for iawgoM he was awesome :)

I tried to mine Neoscrypt I can not afford to mine Neoscrypt myself even with hardware that is fully owned with not that high electricity rates. I feel personally like Neoscrypt was put in then abandoned with little done to improve it. Can we not try to improve Neoscrypt and make it better for graphics cards or take Feathercoin back to Scrypt. - I am not a coder just someone looking in I may be wrong because I do not have the experience yet to know enough on this field.
How am I supposed to improve it? It delivers more than Scrypt for GPUs and CPUs. The issue of low or negative profits is a different story.
-
It does not need improving. The miner improvements for sha256 and scrypt were both driven by increasing prices driving adoption and a real market was creates. FTC prices are low meaning investment or time or money in miner optimisation. But then it took a lot longer than a few months to get that train moving.
-
Also regardless of it’s efficiency regarding GPU performance, increasing that would not increase the income of a miner, as all miners would profit form the better efficiency and the percentage of blocks found would remain the same.
It’s fine as it is, just the mining software may need some optimisation, especially for NVidia cards, but that’s another topic and should not be discussed in this thread.
Changing the hash algorithm again is no option, as it would not improve anything
-
I joined Feathercoin to learn about mining our own coin. That has been incredibly successful, in particular the open source community. The software changes, testing and network monitoring have been a lot of work, but we got through to the calm waters of neoscrypt with a successful network.
I don’t think many people realise, the reduction in hash rate is due the massive increase in security of neoscrypt over scrypt or sha256.
I am very proud of every one who has contributed, and the exciting technical developments we are easily capable of, even without the extra members we still get on-board. We still need to strive to be Independent, decentralized, open source.
Feathercoin is nearly 2 years old, which is a significant achievement. Any similar business would only be breaking even at that stage! Actually, I think it is amazing.
I have started a lot of relevant seed projects in technical development, but revamping the look of the forum has been good, it would be great some more artistic touches to the coin.
-
Lost? Have you checked down the back of your sofa?
-
And like any other “artist” he’s broke (lost 7 BTC)…so he ragequit from all the crypto stuff ;D
I’ve lost more than 7 BTC on FTC and PXC alone, but it doesn’t make me to quit in rage. In a matter of fact, you lose only when you stop loss on something going down or write off a hopeless totally investment. The opera ain’t over till the fat lady sings :)
-
Well said ghost :)

Well the reasons for why I entered crypto is still the same:
Fiat = complete scam - checkCrypto = distributed consensus network, anotherwords sound money (besides lot of other application) - check
Besides that FTC is awesome! FTC FTW!

I have set up 100K Club ever, any action alone is suicide. This is the test of all. do your own thing and damn what people say.
-
well i am atleast glad people are talking in terms of lost btc rather then lost fiat :)
-
So are there any future plans for FTC that the developers can tell us about. Its all gone very quiet here and this is quite worrying for us mere followers/supporters.
What happened to the new website? Is that still in the pipeline? Also there was talk about reintroducing the newsletter, even a monthly or bi-monthly letter would be a good idea in order to keep everyone in the loop.
Is this stuff a secret or is it just not happening. Communication is key!
Regards.
