ACCIDENTALLY SENT FTC TO A BTC ADDRESS
-
I just accidentaly sent 455 FTC to a BTC address, what now :( ???
-
thats actually a great question. i’ve wondered before if it was possible to send ccoins in to the ether or will the network prevent a transaction to an invalid (unregistered address) this actually makes me curious about the whole underpinnings of how wallet creation works and if the network even knows about it. If it doesnt then it might be out there forever till someone claims that address. (you might be able to do it but thats well beyond my knowledge of such things) maybe one of the technical developers for feathercoin can answer.
-
Do you have a transaction ID ? or wallet address you can provide so we can look at the blockchain ?
-
@acidd the wallet addres is : 3E1HmXUFgagqNQYTGJj4mM96b27FWSxC7h
transaction id is : 4d85dc90d3ffc3a6a7c8a019fb3b90ec925f26acb4022a75f8313fe610bf13b6
rly hope i can still get it back :(

i did some reading and i’ve got a much stronger handle on how wallets work but most of the information is about bitcoin. i’m not sure if feathercoin is any different i’m curious what acidd will say (incidently i went out with a block chain explorere and didnt see a transaction for 455 ftc on that wallet though i saw the transaction… again cuirious what acidD will say.) https://fsight.chain.tips/address/3E1HmXUFgagqNQYTGJj4mM96b27FWSxC7h

Oh Dear. I think you’ve lost your coins.
Do you have the private key for this address ?

@acidd yes i do have the private key :x

it’s weird my block explorer says the address is valid but the main feathercoin explorer says it’s not. So I would listen to the main one.
https://bitinfocharts.com/feathercoin/address/3E1HmXUFgagqNQYTGJj4mM96b27FWSxC7h also recognizes it.
lol…try importing that single private key into Feathercoin QT. I doubt it will work but I dont have any other ideas. I mean that one key…not a wallet.dat
All Feathercoin addresses should start with a 6 or 7 - that’s it. Ive read a few stories of people sending BTC to litecoin addresses etc and I dont think they got them back.
-
@acidd i ordered the feathercoins on litebit and accidentally dropped my BTC address. On status it says order complete. So i guess they sent it to the address?? Or maybe something went wrong for them and it comes back. I have contacted them aswell, i still have a shred of hope left ;(… it was 945 FTC btw, pretty bummed about it…
-
See usually if you if you try to send to a different coin address the client will do this:
but not if you send to a multisignature address!
Litecoin used to have the same version field (which resulted in multi signature addresses start with 3) as bitcoin so it is possible to send LTC to BTC address and vice versa and don’t get any errors. because it is a valid address.
Feathercoin was once a fork of litecoin so I believe will share this issue as well.
-
@acidd so its officially lost? damn thats a real freaking bummer. that was all i had ;D
-
Yeah sorry man. Coins are gone.
-
I feel your pain bro :(
-
Sorry to hear that, still contact the exchange tho’ and let us know what they say.
-
Sad! - 455FTC is a lot nowadays. - I hope you learend and will double-check now each transaction.
-
Sounds like an opportunity to implement a new feature to the feather coin wallet or core possibly?
Some sort of check bit based around the feathercoin starting numbers (6 or 7) you mention?
-
@davereplicant No I would rather suggest to double-check.
-
@Davereplicant I thought there were checks in the wallet, but not on the exchange web site?
-
@jancleades This is a multisig address. If you have the keys, you can construct a tx to send the coins to a regular FTC address.
-
@chekaz I appreciate that. I was just thinking ahead for a future example where a teller or cashier who’s not familiar with crypto makes a mistake by pushing the wrong button.
I’m not a programmer, just looking at this from a user perspective.
