Omnom’s Idea
I propose a multi-faceted contest with awards like:
1)award for best FTC article
2)award for member that aranges most signups in the FTC forum
3)award for best designed FTC advertisement
4)award for best FTC signature phrase (similar to “Feathercoin money without the weight”)
5)award for stirring interest for FTC in alternative cryptocurrencies thread
6)award for most helpfull forum member (you could nominate some and then have a poll)
7)award for getting most businesses accept FTC
these can have a duration of 1 or more weeks each, they could run at the same time or at different times.
Thus you will get multifaceted coverage of FTC’s needs.

Ice098’s idea:
Maybe a contest to try to get a major news site to do an article or a viral video for youtube, flash mob with people in chicken suits to get it noticed

There is chickencoin already (CNC).

The best way to promote currency is to use it. Money has several means and one of them is to facilitate buying and selling. We can add value to FTC by backing it with some real things. We’ve got Marketplace on the forum already, time to use it big time. Start selling what you don’t need, but may have value to someone else. No trash indeed. It may be auction or fixed price or whatever. Payment in FTC only. Every succesful sale must be confirmed with a transaction ID and tracking number. Whoever sells most wins.

Here’s my contest idea:
Instead of having a price for first, second, third place and then using lottery tickets, we should borrow from the world of mining. That is we should award something like ‘shares’ for whatever activity you do that helps Feathercoin. Those that contribute more, get more, those that contribute less, get less, but they still get something. That way you achieve 3 things:
- The more active members get the best rewards
- Newcomers will be more willing to participate because they have a certainty to win something
- Unlike the lottery, no one that contributed is left empty-handed, and the rewards system is very transparent.
As for the formula to use, we could have something like PPS. For example, if there have been a total of 1000 work shares, and you got 100 of those, you get 10% of the total reward price.
There is one downside to this. If too many people join, the reward may be too small. In that case, instead of having 1000$ + 1000 coins, it might be better to just convert everything to dollars (or coins) and have a larger reward chest.
justabitoftime would have to write a list of activities that get you shares. Obviously we can’t predict everything so if someone helps through some form not mentioned in the list, jbt should decide how many ‘shares’ he gets.
So the important theme of my idea is not to rely on luck, but to reward based on how much time you dedicated, and how important you contribution was.

Something like this ?

I have a great metaphor for people who want to understand the blockchain mechanism and the 51% attack.
But I suck at animated graphics.
You have walls made of bricks. The bricks from different sources are colored differently. The network looks for the tallest (blockchain extent is called height) stack (block) of bricks (transactions) with the same color and connects these stacks together.
Orphans would be stacks of different colors trying to land in the same spot.
The 51% attack is someone laying a separate chain of transactions X, for a certain point in time. They then add the entry stack Y, and write X into Y. Chain X doesn’t have to be built quickly as long as stack Y is the quickest and longest at that time. And it can still fail.
A 51% attack can fail easily if a longer but slower stack manages to finish earlier. This would be akin to the tortoise beating the hare.

As my son thinks i need no sleep… i made another one.

as allways, just a little bit of time. 8)
Edit: As it Comes to my mind, it´s not very atractive, if i am for example an Investor, if i can´t buy or invest in Feathercoin with Money = $,€ ect.
I know it depends on the Value if a Plattform make this available. But if you reech out for normal People not related to mining, it would be a
huge Advantage for us. If my mother for example like the idea…she wouldnt mine, she would buy or invest.
but for now my Mother and the Investor, Need to buy Bitcoin, Change them, wich leeds in some trading and sending fees.
So you Need more Profit or make it even more worth to do it like so for normal Person. Maybe you can, at some Point get BTC-E to make this
happen. -
I think you should just stick with what worked in the last Bounty contest…except make it a month long 1 or 2 bounty a day 1BTC per (Given in FTC for the days BTC value) for randomly chosen blocks throughout the month. It will attract people to mine and attract new pools

I know I suck at image creation, but still wanted to contribute…
+1 to this idea.
I tend to prefer ‘now that rewards’ to ‘if then rewards’. What’s scarce right now is trust, serendipity, surprise. People will pay for community and feeling connected. I think it is good if we reward this behaviour rather than out and out competition which can undermine collaboration.
Maybe some kind of Reddit style voting for one another. Like Player’s player award.
PS
If then reward = if you do this I will give you that - can lead to manipulation
Now that = now that have done that I will give you this - more of a surprise can lead to excessive prodigality and gifting behaviour. Indirect reciprocity in tribes etc.Two main ways of changing behaviour manipulation or inspiration. Room for both, need to find a balance.

This^ …I like and second it. I know most people would even settle for a little constructive criticism, like “Hey good effort, but maybe (insert constructive criticism here)”… Giving a little direction to someone to strive for something better that everyone can appreciate… I believe there is a lot more productive value in this… When someone tries to be a part of something, and tries to contribute with no feedback, sometimes the silence can be deafening…
Your last comment is correct. Negative feed back is better than no feedback. I believe the worst form of torture is sensory deprivation but don’t quote me on that. We need to feed connected, we need to feel needed.
Main problem with cryptos at the moment, they have poor usability and very tech focus community that is counter cultural to the majority of people. Feather Coin adds a much needed human element to the movement.
The values of a grass roots movement with the professionalism you would expect from a world class company like Google.
Really good idea in my opinion, have to agree with what is said a few messages above. Newcomers will take the chance if they see that they can actually get FTC / BTC for contributing and not play the lottery :)

As we create the contest ideas, please make sure you type something concerning the scoring. I want to make sure it’s fair but also very manageable, it looks like June is going to be incredible busy for the Feathercoin community.

This is my two cents to the competition idea. One of the most fun competitions i have participated was the Victor Ludus PS Vita competitions, dot2dots in facebook and riddles back when the Vita launched in 2012. The competition was organized trough twitter and included several competitions throughout the launch.
You could riddle or challenge (for example questions about FTC, the lore of cryptos in general, challenge to find some hidden message or detail in a youtube video, dot2dot challenge in Facebook, compare two pictures and find differences and many more) via the official FTC twitter to win 5,10 even 20FTC. These series of competitions could go trough the whole month of June actively and then a bit easier afterwards. In order to participate you would need to follow the official FTCtwitter and reply with the correct answer and hashtag #FTCRiddle/competition or whatever. First one/two/three to do this after the challenge is posted is/are the winner/s and could claim their prize by contacting via PM in twitter. The game could be advertised beforehand in btc-e trollbox, reddit, twitter, forum and other places. Between competitions you could invite people to check out the forum and the community and even join. This could be relatively cheap way to get people interested and new followers, get some publicity among the cryptocurrencies and let some of the newcomers chance to get some FTC.
Cryptorally has done this and gotten seemingly good publicity and followers and they have done this somewhat simple by just challenging people to promote their twitter in trollbox for some LTC. I think the secret is to try to do this in good taste so to speak and not to worry about giving out FTC “cheap”. The idea of this competition is simply raise awareness of FTC and the community and do this in a fun and even in a challenging way. You could even implement some of the other competitions from this thread to twitter after you have gotten some new followers (slogan for FTC, best use of the FTC logo…) To setup this competition you really don’t need anything you already haven’t got. Just your imagination is really the only limit in this. Hope this helps.
Capt. S
edit: after reading the original post again just wanted to clarify that you could obviously use USD or bigger amounts of FTC. This would be simply series of smaller contests. In this contest style it would be easier (or would it?) to use only FTC for prizes. Ideally get a lot of buzz and many different players and winners

I’m watching these!

My Idea:
An e-marathon.
In order to get new featherheads, it has to be something that anyone can participate in without having to jump through hoops. The more complex or demanding the contest, the less likely the average internet-goer will actually care enough to participate. I’ll jot down some random events that must be accomplished to win, but these will just be ideas for thought:
All the legs of the race are kept secret until the day of the contest launch. But there will be plenty of advertising beforehand so we have a bunch of people ready to go.
On the day the contest begins, the first leg of the race will be to post in a thread X (this gets more users to register to the forum, and rewards those who already have an account and can insta-post)
Leg 2: Create an FTC wallet (this also will benefit contributing members who already have an account here. Perhaps post the address in the aforementioned thread X)
Leg 3: Make a pro-FTC tweet/facebook status and screenshot it
Leg 4: Similar to what kagemusha posted, you have to take a picture of a feathercoin logo you put up in a public place where it would be reasonable that X # of people will see it per day.
Leg 5: Tattoo FTC on your neck
Leg 6: make a thread with proof of you completing all the tasks
Again, these are just ideas for what must be completed to win. The marathon aspect of it allows you to essentially get the same benefit of multiple different contests all in one.

Btw… I’m sending everyone coins in the next few days just to say thank you for the ideas!
-
I’ll tattoo the Feathercoin logo on my body for some FTC. I’ve never gotten a tattoo before but what the heck… I believe in FTC enough to make it permanent.
