Maybe it's no attack (alternate explanation)

"What I think is happening with FTC is that the automated pool hopping is corrupting the block chain.
Yesterday FTC net rate was plodding along at about 170MH/s then multipool suddenly threw another 85MH/s at it taking it to 265MH/s and about half an hour later there was another sudden jump up to over 500MH/s I presume as a result of people using profitability sites like Coinchoose/CoinWarz to target their mining focus.
Because FTC has a long confirmation delay, it was about 15min when this happened, a little bit of luck with the new miners and they can find a couple of blocks in this time and have a longer block chain. Kind of like a 51% attack. Some people think there was a deliberate attack on the FTC chain yesterday, but I haven’t read a plausible explanation of how this would be done. You would need several hundred MH/s and that’s a lot of GPU’s to control."

Sorry Radacoin. This is an attack. Someone is occasionally firing up their miners or redirecting hash to their own version of our block chain and orphaning every block the pools are finding.
In addition to this Coinotron keeps going down, I am trying to ascertain whether it is being DDOSed or not. Coinotron had 400MH on FTC yesterday, an attack would be much easier with it down. If you are using this pool then it is best to switch to somewhere else for the time being. Coinotron users may be unaware of what is happening as the site is not even up to show orphan blocks.
The good news is that with the increased price the number of miners switching to Feathercoin is going up and these attacks will get harder and harder.
Do you have some “insinder information” on what’s going on with Coinotron? Their web frontend is down, not sure about their pool servers, but I assume they are down as well, since my FTC miners automatically switched to another pool.
I have been in contact with Coinotron about this since last night. He is still not sure what the cause is.

recommend people to setup solomining as failover
Depends on your hardware. All my solo blocks have been rejected in the past.

even right now a quick check on fcpool shows 336/561 equal to about 60%, dont know exactly if that just out of wack, or something isnt right…

I’ve been consistenly mining over a fcpool.com since the beginning and now so many orphans. Of course I also just noticed one user having 157 MH. I repeat one user. This puts fcpool.com right now above 50%. It’s been happening on and off for the past day.
Of course this is all probably due to the pump and dumpers. This is not necessarily a bad thing but for people like myself and many others who faithfully mined to help out we are instantly locked out.
What is the solution to something like this? Just goto another coin?
A single person joined in with 160MH, asun023. Yep I said that right. They were around 152MH 20 mins ago. This is not a bash against this person but an observation.
exactly. is fcpool legit or fake right now because the feathercoin site stats are telling me something else.

Seems they are talking about it in here http://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php?topic=853.0 on the last couple of pages.
