I’ve just got some USB block erupters, I thought I’d mine a non scrypt bitclone.

I was going to do some ppcoin, but note it’s forum is being attacked at the moment. I suppose namecoin was my next possibility?

I don’t want it to effect my Feathercoin mining, or disturb my Feathercoin support, although it could be on one of my 2 mining servers USBs, in the end. (when I can upgrading cgminer.)

Anyone any ideas, suggestions?

Hi,

I just bought 10 myself ($106 delivered!).

I’m mining bitcoin at give-me-coins.com using bfgminer (compiled without opencl).

Runs and works fine alongside cgminer on my linux FTC mining rig.

Bitcoin is currently worth mining with these. I use coinwarz.com to evaluate other coins.

Yep, just started minig…after 20minutes of fighting with cgmniner (configuring bat file) I tried bfgminer and it worked with my first bat file ;)

I have a few of these (15) solo mining for btc lol. I run 8 on this machine which mines other coins too using the 7950 and 7 on my main FTC rig which has 4 gpu’s and 7 erupters. I know I will probably never find a block alone but putting them on a pool next to my asic hardly seemed worth it.
I have the odd power issue with the cheap shitty 2000mA psu’s the hubs come with… 1 has gone bang and the others sometimes just randomly cutout… I will get around to putting all 15 on the FTC rig at some point with the hubs powered straight from the 5v rail which i think is 20 or 30A and I doubt I’m even drawing 5A atm. I might even make some silly little box with an F12 either side for forced cooling… Or i’ll probably just sit here thinking about things i could be doing and actually do nothing :)
Also last time i looked at 1 of those coinchose sites, bitcoin was the highest on the sha256 coins…

i find cgminer 3.1.1 works better for some reason… probably something I am doing wrong… but it works so i leave it.
I’ve never managed to get them running with higher versions… but tbh I’ve only tried for a minute or 2 then gone back to 3.1.1

It looks like you are right. All the other non scrypt coins seem to be dead apart from terracoin.

bfgminer sounds like worth a go. I could do with a separate program and config, from my Feathercoin miners. I can use my rigs then, and run one USB on each, to a Bitcoin or Terracoin pool.

Cheers for the feedback

I have cgminer 3.4.0 on here now using the gpu mining FTC or PXC and also 3.1.1 using 8 erupters solo mining BTC. If you need any example bat files for 3.1.1 i can post mine.

solo mining BTC with 8erupters?? You are a true optimist…I dont think you will mine a block ever…

Well 15 total :) over 2 machines. I have purposely not calculated the odds because i don’t wanna know! If my bfl jally ever arrives that will also be on the solo project.
Here is my bat line

cgminer-nogpu.exe --icarus-options 115200:1:1 --icarus-timing 3.0=100 -S COM2 -S COM3 -S COM4 -S COM5 -S COM6 -S COM7 -S COM8 -S COM9 -o 127.0.0.1:8332 -u T -p test

i reuse passwords everywhere so feel free to hack my gibson.

i bought mine on ebay.
from this guy:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-PACK-ASICMINER-BLOCK-ERUPTER-USB-336-MH-x10-3-3-GH-s-ASIC-MINER-RED-COLOR-/151154368646?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item233180a086

the shipping cost is high for the first (75$), however each above the first one is basiclly free=)
From US to norway it took 2 days from order til i had em in hand!

i also bought theese:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/90W-power-20-port-USB2-0-HUB-USB-HUB-Industrial-grade-HUB-for-Bitcoin-mining-/151155337245?pt=US_USB_Cables_Hubs_Adapters&hash=item23318f681d

Works like a charm!

However, will i ever reach ROI? most likely not… i can run em until the diff reaches 2000mill, then they consume more power than value they produce…

Do you see what I see?
(6 erupters on each side 8))

This one is smaller, but waterflow should be better:

arctic cold eruption

Simple tutorial to overclock erupters, just change oscilator, 1resistor and add big heatsink:
http://www.designer2k2.at/mods/elektronik/85-block-erupter-overclocking.html

Cant wait for my watercooling block I mentioned earlier in this post.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/122x41x12MM-Aluminum-Water-Cooling-cooler-Block-For-PC-CPU-GPU-Heatsink-/281148521160?pt=US_CPU_Fans_Heatsinks&hash=item4175c1fac8

Also I ordered “cheap bay hub” which I want to re-wire and boost with 5V 6A led strip power supply, my inspiration is here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=253749.msg2909052#msg2909052

And of course cheapest chinese red Raspberry Pi I can get from e-bay at ±31USD.
(there is lot of rumors that they are shitty, on the other side lot of users have no problems with them…so I guess there is only one way to find out)

So my idea is:
water cooling (cheap)
overclocked erupters
modify cheap USB hubs
all made around red rPI

Right now, everything is ordered from ebay, waiting for delivery, while erupters are occupying all my PC’s USB ports :)
For testing purposes I will just use my small old aquarium and pump to see how it goes.

Also looking for small heatsinks to other side of erupters, there is a lot of 100pcs. 8.8x8.8x5mm at bay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/100Pcs-Lot-8-8-8-8-5mm-Chipset-Aluminum-Heatsink-Sony-T4000-Thermal-Tape-/121199492739?pt=US_CPU_Fans_Heatsinks&hash=item1c380d7e83
however those seems to be to big an 100pcs. is too much…so I am looking for smaller base, but taller heatsinks atm…

Also I have no idea how to use hot water right now ;D

Could be constantly churning out tea or maybe drip brew coffee.

The coffee shop owner I crash with on weekdays would be elated by this since he wants to futz around with crypto but wanted a value add to it.
