Hi I just clicked on wallet.dat in the C:\Users\fletch\AppData\Roaming\Feathercoin it automatically opened in notepad (dont know if thats right or not) and all that was there was a load of none alpha numeric symbols and every so often what seems to be a random word is that right or should I use a different programme to open it with?

Wallet.dat is the file wher your private keys and and content of you feathercoin wallet is stored.
It’s not readable by any editor and can be opened correctly only by feathercoin-qt and feathercoind.
If you don’t wnat to loose all your coins-> fingers off!!!

lol, i was just going to back up the file onto a few usbs so I have copies, if for arguments sake I get a new pc could I install the ftc wallet then just remove the dat file and replace it with one of my regular updated copies?

LOL,
of course you can do that. Copy, backup copy back are no problems, just do not modify the file with an editor :)
you also should backup your private keys, as these are the way to recover your FTC adresses and therefore the content of your wallet.
