Absolute Beginner wants to mine
-
Hey im from Germany and I am quite new to cryptocurrencies. First heard about them in June 2013 and first purchased Bitcoins via localbitcoins.com in November. Well, I got myself a Radeon R9 290 and would like to start mine some alt coins. Please help me. All I have right now are walllets for FTC/LTC (and ofc BTC). Where can I start as a beginner? Is it necessary to mine 24/7? I use my computer for it, and I’d also like to use my graphics card for some gaming. So in total I would be mining for let’s say 22hrs a day 7 days a week and so on.
Please recommend pools, which are maybe EU/Germany dominated, maybe even both for LTC and FTC. That would be really kind. And also: Do you have to necessaryly wait to be approved by pool-admins? Is there a way to start mining as quick as possible??
Greetings!

Ok, I’ve got it working. I joined wemineftc.com, getting 380kHash/s now. It’s to low I say, but I think it’s because my graphics card has 4GB of Memory but I only have around 3,5GB of RAM because I use a 32-bit os at this time. Upgrading to 64-bit os with 8GB of RAM should bring a bonus, should’t it? Since scrypt-coins are memory hungry?!
Greetings!

[/quote]Memory hungry in terms of the GPU memory not RAM.

Thank you for the answer. How to say, well they have a batch generator on their website (wemineftc.com) so i quickly dled it and copied it into my cgminer folder , worked well.
Then I opened the batch file with editor and changed that value, that was on 13 or 14 i dont remember tp 20 assuming it was the difficulty. And now i have around 600kHash/sec, but still on their website I only see 1-3kHash/s altough in client it says something different. …Got to fix the config.bat nicely but dont know how…? Any suggestions?
Greetings

13, 14 up to 20, those numbers are the intensity, how hard you want to push your card.
I’ve run mine at 20 for over a year without problems but the cards will have a shorter life. What your client tells you is what you are hashing, ignore website data.
I assume website hash data is generally worked out by how many shares you generate compared to how many blocks you find, just ignore it, client is always right.
For help with the config.bat go here
