\[Solved\] What is an API Key :s
-
Hi,
I’ve been searching for a while, but havent been able to find a definitive answer.
Can anyone explain exactly what an API key is in the context of pools? :o
Thanks :)

What do you need it for :)?

Thought it might be someting important I needed to know. I’m guessing it’s not based on your reply.

API stands for Application Programming Interface. In the context of pools it will probably be JSON. It is a set of commands you can run to pole, or send information to the network. I’m still learning about this as there is an amazing amount of back room work done(by Bitcoin & Litecoin & others), and also functions that can be run from the feathercoind (daemon).
Bush has also written / maintains an Feathercoin API 2, which is about extracting other information from the web site.
Thanks for your question, it is one of the things we are trying to distribute to the community. The facilities already available and open source code which could be re-used for Feathercoin applications.
If you want to do further research, I suggest trying to set up a p2pool, which can be done in a Virtualbox.
Report back and tell us how you get on.
