New to mining but have followed crypto for a long time.

I enjoy telling stories so I may as we’ll start my intro with one.
On a warm Saturday afternoon about 7 months ago I was standing on my friends front porch discussing the price of Bitcoin and considering investing. The price was around $100 a coin and we decided that we were going to buy in if it dropped to $75. For nearly a month I checked MtGox twice a day hoping.
As time went by and work got busy not to mention me moving Bitcoin was moved to the back of my mind. Suddenly I get a simply 3 word text message one morning," Bitcoin at 1000". Obviously I was blown away and realized I had seriously missed the boat, dropped the ball, whatever saying fits best… I vowed to not let this happen again if I had an opportunity.I ended up at BTC-e and was completely overwhelmed with all of the crypto currencies. I knew most of the ins and outs of Bitcoin as I’ve read about it for years but LTC FTC PPC NMS :S I was confused and overwhelmed.
My first idea was to buy litecoin as I saw it go from 4 to 10 dollars in no time. The idea of giving my bank acct number and routing number to a Russian, or whatever county, bank didn’t sit we’ll with me. After many hours and realizing there is no simply way to buy litecoin I started researching mining.
I got cgminer up and running as well as CPU miner and thought I was doing well with an overall 120ish hash rate between 4 pc’s. Then I checked reddit. Needless to say I began getting some parts together on New Egg and decided on 2 7850’s to start with.So that’s where we are now. I have 600 bucks worth of stuff sitting on my wish list waiting for payday to order the first few parts. I didn’t want to throw in the towel on the pc’s that I already have running and my pool supports FTC so about 5 hours ago I pointed my miners in that direction. With the low difficulty and the history behind FTC, I’m probably going to be around for a while. I really think the market value will grow and I can only imagine having a few hundred FTC and one morning seeing the news that they are worth $700 one day.
Sorry for the long story but hopefully you know a little about me now. I look forward to getting involved with the community.

i am in the same boat as you in a way. i also specualted on bitcoins when they were like a dollar, then just didn’t bother. but good things come to those who wait i hear, and if i had no regrets over not getting involved in bitcoin, i would not have gone in search of something else to be a part of, and ended up here.i mine on 2xhd7850’s. they do ok, temps are low, and are good for me to just play around with. but now i see some actual real coins coming in, i want to upgrade. i will just use potential profits from ftc to buy new cars if i ever make anything. but im having fun regardless, so all is well!!!

*cards not cars lol.

What kind of hash rate are you getting? I’m about to pull the trigger and order 2 tomorrow and i read a blog today about overclocking them to about 400Kh/s (i’m not worried about power consumption)
I got my firs 4 FTC’s over to BTC-e this evening and think i may be able to make a bit when BTC bounces back, i’m definitely going to love the day trading aspect of all of this.

currently i am getting 350-360 each card, 700 average for the pair. i have them oc’d a bit. -I 15 --thread-concurrency 8192 --gpu-memclock 1250 --gpu-engine 1050, they run at 70 deg all day every day. there maybe more can be squeezed out, but i would not know where to start. this is all new to me, i originally bought them for gaming.

well i just bumped the gpu engine up to 1100, and am getting 375 per card now. gpu temps @ 68 and 64, but may go a bit higher during the day by a couple of deg.
