Why are you in this game?
-
I started to write a response to a couple of posts and it all merged into one so I decided after a few beers and a bottle of wine (maybe 2 after I had finished writing it) to start this topic instead, those of you that spend as much time on this forum as I do will know the topics I’m referring too…
Q. Ask yourself are you mining for fun or for profit? (my answer for what is is worth is fun)
I’ve built a rig (with some other bits I had laying around) for about £ 1000
I’ve only been hanging around here for a month or so, and I must say I’ve not had as much fun playing with technology in a very long time! I’ve learnt how to tune it up to about 2Mh/s got involved with a great community and am hooked on the whole concept of where does this go next, not how much can I make in a small amount of time!
I admit that I look at the screen and scream you damn fool at some of the posts, but in the same respect I’ve cried with laughter at some of the posts that I see.
Q. Are the ASICs going to spoil it?
A. Maybe, maybe not but do I care? Nope, I will support the feather as this is where it started for me I have little to offer in the way of coding skills (on the side I write very bad PHP for a couple of small companies and charge them in beer) but if someone like “Kevlar” or “Zerodrama” comes along and says can you help out then I will offer anything I have to help out.Q. Do I buy a mining rig now or not?
A. See my question at the beginning of this topic, my personal answer is “Hell yes” get involved, if nothing else you will learn like I have how much tech has moved on at the lower end of the scale in the consumer market.I work every day with very high end tech and it’s interesting but dull at the same time, I design infrastructure to run mammoth system for a faceless organisation, who most people in the UK deal with everyday without realising it! and for what? to do what we ask of it, never to prove it can do it! where as with these rigs we make an expectation and then try to prove it can do it and then furthermore we try to push it a little harder just to see what happens!
Q. Can I get rich?
A. I have no idea, ask my other half’s sister if her team are going to win the local ladies football championship this year, yep you have my stupid answer for a just as stupid question! Life is what you make it, come up with ideas and don’t just think about them, put them into reality “FTClover” is doing just that, and fair play to him I wish him all the best and hope he doesn’t burn the house down!Q. But I want to get rich?
A. Control your own destiny! as I have said I’m in this for fun! I mined DOGE for fun for 24hrs, then took it along to http://cryptsy.com and traded, watching the numbers go up and down, and had a good couple of hours trading one thing for another and came out what to me personally was on top :) I trade daily with people on here and a couple of other sites, but for no other reason than to keep it interesting!Q. And why should I listen to you?
A. You shouldn’t!Tonight’s post is sponsored by Enville Ales and Blossomhill

The wealth is this forum’s members (time and effort). A coin is not required to gain that wealth.[sup]1[/sup]
One could say, Feathercoin is the store of value inherited from the forum members.[sup]2[/sup]
[sup]1 : You do need an email address however and tips are appreciated.[/sup]
[sup]2 : YMMV[/sup] -
Cannot agree more! Thanks for your nice description +1rep from me too.
In the last 2 months I built 2 rigs, got again involved on more coding and learned a lot from the cool FTC community.
Fun+Learning+Socializing = my wealth ;)

For me, it’s a tool. At least it started as one. I needed a way to increase my income as I’ve become disabled. However I’ve learned so much for what crypto stands for and it’s implications I’ve become a cheerleader for the technology, and made a little money by doing so.
I have one scrypt rig, I’m running a small group buy for a KnC Mercury, two small units from BFL, and one block erupter. So yeah I like ASIC’s also, they are the future of scrypt.

For the lulz.
Really.
If I can take part in doing something that makes white, grey haired old men literally hop up and down over their scraps of paper, I’m all in.
That and I want an island. Or an oil rig or cruise ship that I can convert into a micronation.
This!
Payment processing should be a vocation, a marginally profitable industry where the people doing it are motivated by a combination of factors including indirect societal reciprocation, duty, profit and the lulz.
It’s also programmable money. Don’t forget if you want to give it intrinsic value you can; build a Link protocol or put your miner in a greenhouse over the winter and grow summer vegetables.
