Updating to feathercoin v0.8.5-beta - didn't erase first directory - ?

Hi, I’m responding to http://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php/topic,6167.msg45803.html#msg45803 but I can’t reply there yet as i’m new.
Question: i’m updating to the Feathercoin-QT v0.8.5 , but at that post it says to “Delete the old Feathercoin directory” first (for Mac version). I didn’t do that since I didn’t/don’t know what the “Feathercoin directory” is. I’ve downloaded the new version and it is currently in the process of “reindexing blocks on disc.” Need I be concerned that I didn’t “delete the old feathercoin directory” before I downloaded the new version?
Please advise.

It’s just to avoid starting the old version accidentally.
After your wallet is upgraded, the old version can’t read the data files anymore.
Most of time everything runs smooth.
I’m not familiar with the post, but the most important thing is to have a backup of the old wallet data files or an export of your private keys.
That’s all you need to recover your coins in case of problems
