Hi,
new FTC user here, been lurking the forums for a couple months, bought a 270 card and hope to begin mining FTC in the following days.
I have a computer science degree and been through a couple cryptography and number theory classes, plus the coursera crypto part 1 last year which was awesome and is supposed to have part 2 in the next few months (if it’s not postponed AGAIN :-))… though I’m afraid not having enough practical experience to be able to help much at the moment.
In fact, except perhaps for pointing out that many links here in the forums (especially older guides it seems) were broken by the recent change, I’m the one in need of help. I don’t know if this has to do with recent changes as well, but the home page for Feathercoin isn’t showing the FTC client for download.
So there you have it, for all my CS expertise, I can’t even find and create a simple Wallet :-)
Cheers,
Marcos.

I’ve followed a few links from google that don’t land you on the correct thread. I’m guessing these will be resolved over time by google re-crawling the forum?

Hi,
I think I’ve followed links directly from the forum, because I was looking for a guide to see if I was doing something wrong on trying to find the client. I suspected it was only available on some github or something, though this wouldn’t be very good for attracting new people to ftc…
Anyway, I’ve just discovered what the problem was! Chrome… either that or the website was made for (or using some tool for) internet explorer… (didn’t test with firefox though). It renders the page without the download links (after the video, it jumps directly to tools), tried on IE and it finally showed up. \o/
… or maybe my pc is compromised =)

Sorry to hear your having problems.
Try this link its a getting started guide and includes lots of links to everything from getting a wallet to mining etc.

No problem… it was a browser issue, in fact, Chrome has been acting weird lately… some kind of “lazy update” seems to require the user to focus on some tab for it to make server requests, otherwise it seems priority is really low! Is background loading that heavy on the internetz?! :-)
But maybe it’s really only on my machine, it would be advisable for more people to test this so we don’t miss the people who find FTC and happen to use Chrome. (or any other browser, IE is usually the one with these kind of incompatibilities, so if Chrome is having problems, firefox may as well?)
thanks for the link =)

The mining guide says cgminer version 3.7 is needed for scrypt, but the download site has only the source, not pre-compiled for windows… I’d like to test the card right away instead of going for linux just yet (so I can compare). Where can I find the 3.7 windows executable?

You can find the prebuilt package for cgminer 3.7.2 here.

Thanks, pancrisp.
I was reluctant to google for it, as this has the potential for malicious users to compile it for leeching coins or snoop wallets.
So I figured the ftc community would have a trustworthy source for it, specially since the mining guide requires this miner in particular…
With that said, chrome actually blocked the download claiming it was malicious… But since I’m only testing stuff anyway :-)

Yes, I understand you. In it something is also to me it seems it is very excellent thought. Completely with you I will agree.

Thanks, Serena. :-)
