I’m cash strapped, so I’m tempted by the 750ti with the pcie power plugs, as I can fit three of them on my existing motherboard without the need to replace my PSU and I can do so as and when I have the cash. That’s presuming I can use the pcie 1x as well as the the 16x and the 4x, looking at my motherboard spec, it’s not listed as a PCIe 1x slot, it’s only detailed as a slot for the soundcard riser. It looks like a 1x slot and smells like a 1x slot.

I’ll do the maths and have a think. It might be wise for me to just save the money until I’ve got enough to get the gear I want. But it would mean mining later.

Scratch that, it’s two pcie x16 and an x4. Still not sure about the x1, it might not be a real one.

In ATI world 1x is fine, we all use 1x risers anyway…

Congrats mate it’s a slippery slope from here ;D

Not even sure it’s a real 1x. From what I’ve read, it might be propitiatory for their soundcard riser.

Will the older pcie 2.0 spec cause me a problem?

Nope, not if you buy ATI cards and use a 1x to 16x riser cable…

You’ll be very happy with 3 x 270x Sapphire Toxic’s mate… You can make some decent coin with those…

Dude, how did you get to 300+ posts and resist the urge to mine for so long?

                  Outstanding self control…

It’s not self control trust me. It’s lack of spends haha.

That would be 3x GPU and a new PSU. Really going to have to weigh up my options to get on the ladder.

Anyway, wow, the 270x are actually pretty nicely priced.

You’ll get 3 270x’s on that easy. With a bit of undervolting you’ll probably use up 400-500 watts max.

Depends on your hard disk and CPU, the mobo should pull between 80 and 150 watts. Mine pulls 86 watts with no GPU’s.

Even without undervolting you should squeeze 3 270x’s on their fairly easy.

Find a feathercoin mining calculator and plug in 1500 kh/s to give you an idea of return on investment. Or you could mine Doge or Vertcoin if you wanna just do profit mining, but I suppose I shouldn’t be encouraging you to do that on a FTC forum…

It’s a Phenom II x4 940, and runs very hot, I’ll be shocked if it’s power efficient haha.

Hmmm, I’m not sure about bad@ss CPU’s, I’ve only ever measured the cheapest CPU I could buy for a particular Mobo.

Also need to check what kind of cables are coming out of your PSU, you got enough ports to power 3 PCIe GPU’s? The 270x’s have 2 x 6 pin female plugs to power the card…

I’ve got 2 x GTX 460 both with 2x 6 pins in there at the moment. The PSU only provides 2 x 6pin, the other two I used 2x 2 Molex to 6pin converters.

Again, that’s another reason why I was looking at the 750ti, I’d only be looking at 1x 6pin per card. I figured an optimistic 900kh/s for the investment of 3 cards at £130 ish each was pretty reasonable versus the £500+ and a new PSU for looking at the AMD camp. I need the lowest investment possible to get me out of the blocks.

Thanks for your help BTW, it’s greatly appreciated.
