How to Deal with Spammers - Admin Guide
-
oh my?! whois this?
a nasty spammer… who shall ever come to my rescue?..
-
Can I kill him yet?
-
I can’t report spam via the mobile version of the forum.

I can’t report spam via the mobile version of the forum.
Is that something we can change?
-
I don’t like the mobile skin. It’s better with the responsive design version.
-
Perhaps we should change the introduction system?. A new member has to post once in Newbies and have a member of Staff confirm you seem to be a real person?
-
id be happy with that. :)
-
Yep. Only confirmed, admin-answered users should post in non-newbie sections.
-
I looked at this previously, there is a rating system for spammer, I’d wondered if perhaps the ‘could be spam’ group should have to be admin approved. From what Bush was saying, he had tried it originally, but there were far too many false positives. The solution might be to have everyone’s first post on the moderation queue, but my concern would be that when this place gets busy there will be a lot of work to do, whilst the level of spam probably won’t increase.
-
That’s why we need to get the selected high performer dudes here now. When the damn pump starts, we’ll have this forum flooded with average-level newbies. We’ll need 5 mods just to deal with them.
-
We have more than five mods now. :)
-
But remember the flood of guys last December during the last pump it could be even worse?/better? More anyway.
-
The spam here is a drip, it’s constant but not very much. A huge increase in users won’t increase the drip of the spam, if anything it makes it smaller by percentage. If we need more moderators, we need them to regulate trolls and facilitate debate without descending into trollish flaming. The last thing I think we need is to hinder people from getting involved so I’d discourage a disproportionate response to a small problem.
-
Sounds reasonable I think there a plenty people now for the spam we are getting. It does not last very long.

{spam}
-
that’s just taking the piss!
-
Omg… Don’t understand why it is needed.

What’s this then?
-
is it just me or are people having issues with getting past verification?

There are not many members who have signed up today who haven’t got past validating. It’s a really low percentage, so I’m not worried. It’s possible the confirmation e-mail has been incorrectly flagged as Spam. I’ll take a look.
