Yet Another Development Stub - Firefox OS mobile wallet
Firefox OS is starting to take off, especially for the “non banking” populations of the developing world. That is the area of most deprivation of monetary services and potential mass use for virtual currencies.
Firefox OS is an Android competitor focusing on the low-end smartphone market in emerging markets. Its goal is to build a phone entirely on web technologies; everything you ever touch on the phone is actually running in a browser, all the apps are browser apps, etc. They’ve put a lot of effort into creating APIs so that these browser apps can access everything on the phone, just like native apps on Android/iOS, with you in control of permissions.
Firefox OS, as an Android competitor, needs a phone which allows for custom code to be flashed to it and has drivers available for it. As a result, it doesn’t run on the vast majority of Android phones, as the manufacturers don’t provide the necessary information.
Mozilla, the company behind the Firefox web browser and Firefox OS, recently launched its first smartphones in India for the affordable price of $33. The phone is known as the Intex Cloud FX, and it could do more for Bitcoin adoption in the developing world than any of the high-profile startups in Silicon Valley.
