Looks like one is having stability issues, will have to look into it later

If I had more time in my life or if I didn’t write software for a living I probably would. I find it hard to come home and work on code or even sit in front of a computer when I have been in front of them all day. I do enjoy getting my hands dirty to play with hardware as its a change of pace.

My basement is now warmer than the rest of my house, the foundation has been warming up over the last week and now no longer feels cold.

using a mining farm to heat the basement is the most sophisticated heating solution I’ve seen so far :D

My original msi 7970 from June 2013 is still mining today!

Muhahah, I have reached equilibrium in the house finally, just needed the slab to warm up enough…

Temps in the house are @ 70f and are set @ 64f…maybe I can stop our oil usage or put a dent in it this year

Might be a short mining season, temps are headed back up with no sign of going back down… what a sad winter.

Once I need to start cooling my house I will scale back mining till the fall.

For those that are curious I am successfully heating 1800 sqft of house with my server farm. I can set the temp at 60f and the upstairs house will be 65 at night and into the 70s during the day. My basement where the servers sit goes as low as 70 during the night and upwards of 85f during the day.

You seem to use an USB connection from the motherboard to the GPU.
                        I’ve never seen that.
How does that work and what parts are needed to build that setup?

It isn’t USB. It’s PCIe x1 over a cable which looks like USB.

I can confirm that these are in fact USB cables, however, instead of using a ribbon cable the pcie 1x signal is sent via the wires in the USB cable… so pretty much re-purposing analog equipment for another digital purpose. There is a pcie 1x adapter I plug the USB cables directly into and I also use a 90 degree USB elbow to get under the 2nd PSU. I am guessing this could be done via an cat 5/6 cable?

I assume the outside temperature is not very low at the moment, right?

In the 50s and 0 inches of snow on the ground, I would normally have built a 6 person snow shelter by now… I could try with mud… the ground isnt even really frozen.
