[Solved] Fork in the blockchain
-
Hi all,
Just been digging around with the Feathercoin android wallet and uncovered what looks like a major fork between the 8.6.2 version and 8.7
Peers on 8.6.2 are at block 436140
Peers on 8.7 are at block 436475Is this due to lots of people who have not upgraded yet? Should ACP not stop this?

ACP prevents double spending, the longest fork always wins. That is one of the things about misconceptions of ACP. We learned the hard way when we set it to zero during particularly big hash changes…
What is the difficulty of the wrong fork?. It may be just a couple of miners, they are mining for nothing. all the transactions will return to the wallets after they upgrade and get off the bad fork.
The mobile wallet should have auto updated?

Well we have not finished the work on the android wallet yet. But you may be right. I just noticed the different blocks for different versions in the peer monitor.
I thought ACP broadcast a safe block every 3 or so? And all wallets use that as the correct fork. So beating a 51% attack and essentially any forks longer than 3 blocks?

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I think we need to reject connections from older versions of the client now.
The problem is caused by the fact, that we allow connections from/to any client with a protocol ver sion >= 60002Fix will be implemented in next release
