Wallet Download Windows
-
Hi, I downloaded the latest windows wallet from the download page which states version 0.9.3 is the latest.
However the version downloaded is v0.8.7.3. Is this the latest production build for Windows?
Thanks,
Nick. -
First of all, Hi Nick & welcome to FTC …
FTC is a group effort, we encourage and help members to contribute from all over the world, including members who have created windows builds. @Wellenreiter has been dealing with builds (largely Linux) can answer some other details.
Feathercoin is open source, which means anyone is free to do their own builds. I and other members have produced guides and updated the documentation so that is easier for anyone to do.

The move from Feathercoin-qt 0.8.7 to 0.9.3 is largely to do with debasing the fundamental software from Litecoin to upstream Bitcoin code. Changes made to 0.9.3 have been ported back to 0.8.7 so you don’t have to upgrade the wallet.
We have been concerned / had problems because, whereas all previous wallets are backwardly compatible, the next version will have the option to hard fork to a new blockchain version, so aspects are not currently backwardly compatible, particularly for mining.
Test versions of the new “wallet” (0.9.3.2) were used for mining, which caused us a number of serious support issues and a massive amount of extra work on the forum staff fixing those problems.
A new version 0.9.6. is currently in testing and final development, we also have a guide. That version will be a significant improvements specifically on making it easier to use the wallet , and it will then be worth upgrading.
Feathercoin Version 0.9.6 (Nicknamed “The Bridge”) will be forward and backwardly compatible but after that 0.11 versions will not be backwardly compatible with 0.8.7 wallets. You will then be forced to upgrade.

Hi, thanks for the quick answer.
I want to try some mining, I have found “v0.9.3.1-ftcit-Standard” should I use this or stick with 0.8.7?
Thanks,

0.9.3.1 should be fine, that should be from an official release. Just checkin where from, see above?
