It is not the latest version but is the latest for ubuntu 14.04. It is v0.8.7.0-beta-qr. I tried installing the latest wallet from git but was stopped by errors. I am not a programmer. Ubuntu 14.04 is a fully supported lts version, so I don’t understand why 0.9.6.1 hasn’t been compiled into a deb for it.

        Hi @noalternative

        Welcome to the forums.

Feathercoin 0.8.7 is no longer compatible with the network.

You’d need to upgrade to 0.9.6.1

I wrote a guide that’s fairly simple to follow
        http://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/8556/guide-build-feathercoind-feathercoin-qt-v0-9-6-1-on-ubuntu

What errors did you get ?

          14.04 has already lost hardware support/updates; it’s on s/w patch maintenance only through next year. It’s 6+ years old too… that’s a looong time in linux-years. :)

Perhaps you could you try upgrading to at least 16.04 LTS through the ubuntu package manager, then you could install @Wellenreiter’s 0.9.6.1 deb package?

              @bluebox

Works on my hardware. It still gets security patches.

@noalternative So I had a little spare time after dinner, spun up a new VM with 14.04, apt-updated it, then followed @AcidD’s linked instructions closely and produced a working 0.9.6 qt binary in little more than a half hour, start to finish (fast core i7 helped).

The instructions might seem daunting to a non-programmer, but it’s not programming — follow them line-by-line with a liberal dose of careful copy-pasting, mind the home directory path difference, and include the trouble-shoot fixes posted in the same thread, and you’ll end up with a compiled binary.

Wish I could get the Mac compile to work that well, but I rely on his expertise (and clean environments) to do it in. My Mac is a mess after all the things I’ve done to it over the years; the changing/disappearing versions of homebrew/macports dependencies are more of a moving target than in linux distros. Just don’t get me started on the gcc/libstd vs. clang/libc issues…

Ubuntu 14.04 is not fully supported anymore and I recomend to update to 16.04 LTS.

Nevertheless I will try to create a .deb file and upload it to github.

It will take some time. I’ll update the status here.

Thanks for @Wellenreiter for looking into this, like Windows XP and 32 bit computers people will be on 14.04 for a number of years, its is 12.04 which will no longer be supported.

Unfortunately, a friend of mine has a old Sony Vaio core duo that cannot be upgraded past 12.04 and also I have a mining set up that pretty much relies on being 14.04 to work / ease of set-up, due to AMD drivers compatibility for the cards.

So I think it is worth the effort / big plus that FTC covers as many environments as it does. Many kudos to @Wellenreiter.

Also encouraged the upgrade path if possible for him. However, 14.04 is still patch-supported into 2019. Since ubuntu is likely the most widely installed distro, I’d offer to you that it’s not a waste of time compiling a version for it. :)
