Slow syncing
-
Hello there,
Installed the software 24 hours ago. Been syncing ever since, now I down from 5 years behind tot 3 years and 42 weeks behind.
Windows firewall is open, I tried to add some nodes, no effect.
Any suggestions?Kind regards, JeroenK.

Sorry, it’s a known problem where it (can sometimes) stall a couple of times during the (early) sync. This was due to too small a temporary memory allocation and has been fixed in the next point release.
The best advise is to restart the application, if it appears to have stalled.
It sometimes helps slightly to add the switch -shrinkdebugfile to the executable.
If you desperately need it quicker, compile 0.9.6.2 from Github and sync with that, or request a bootstrap.dat, which is slightly quicker but not instant as the blocks still have to be checked in.
-
Thanxx for the tips.
Unfortunately, I am rather new at this…
How and where do I request a bootstrap.dat?
Where do I find 0.9.6.2 on Github, and how do I compile that? -
I do not know if the application has stalled, the thing is it syncs with only one week per hour. This is the network traffic for the last 30 minutes.0_1508092616330_network traffic.JPG
It is syncing but not continuously. -
You seem to be syncing, it will take a few hours anyway.

It is syncing but not continuously. On my system the initial sync has lasted about 2 days with 0.9.6.1

So I downloaded bootstrap. After starting Feathercoin app I get the message “loading blocks from disk”. In 8 hours I went from " 3 years and 38 weeks behind" to “3 years and 24 weeks behind”. Tried on another computer with a different network connection. Same issue. So does not seem to be a network issue, rather a local setting?

That was the correct thing to do. At this point what the Feathercoin client is doing is loading and validating all the blocks from your Bootstrap file, instead of downloading them from the network. You should be able to have no internet at all and still “load blocks from the disk”
If you see the message loading blocks from disk, you just have to leave it till it’s done.

Is the PC atom CPU with 0.5 MB RAM? And/or on dial-up connection?

The speed of the synchronisation is not really dependent on the network connection speed.
Speed of cpu and disc access are more important. Also there will be an improvement of the synchronisation time in the next release (0.9.6.2)
-
So I finally finished synchronising. Took me about 24/7. This makes it hard for anyone who wants to catch up. The further this initiative gets, the longer it takes to synchronise. Something should be done against long syncing times.
And when I turn om my computer, I am behind two days again… -
@jeroenk
the synchronization will take some minutes only if you are two or three days behind. You are right about the initial synchonization, that takes very long.
It will be improved in the next release (0.9.6.2.) and much much better in the future with the 0.11.x and 0.13.x releases of the wallet, as the synchronization method will change in these releases.
Nevertheless 0.11.x/0.13.x will be compatible with the 0.9.6.1 and 0.9.6.2 releases
