The attack is over and we can thank automatic coin choice pools

Am I the only one that thinks this is a bad idea? Sure i got it up the ass dry by whoever did this too, but forking back to before this started is going to make many people lose confidence in the coin. Thats not even mentioning the fact that the exchanges could pull the coin for a stunt like that.
I can see both sides of this. We are seemingly going to continue down the fork and assume the new price is going to keep miners happy even though they get shafted for the last two days of mining. Which damages credibility more? Depends on whether you see this as a community that stands up to attacks regardless of the short-term impact on value or do we care more about the short-term pump on value and seeming to be the most profitable? For me I would rather we made a stand against the attack.

There is another side. Because of this event miners are now getting twice what they were, sooner.
I know it’s no consolation, but there is an actual benefit (not to mention price, more miners, stronger network) you can attribute to this event.
Provided this is the end of it. If the hash is so consolidated in a couple of pools then this could just be a DDOS away from happening again once a large number of blocks are waiting confirmations.

Maybe we should focus on finding the thief by tracking the coins.

Suppose we think of this like a bank robbery or a mint robbery. We wouldn’t destroy the currency of a group of random people but we would know the serial numbers and we would wait until someone spent those stolen bills specifically. Whoever spent them would likely be the thief and we could “confiscate” those coins in transaction and then do whatever with them. -
well just have to figure out how to create lots of small pools. After all of this I’m looking into making my own pool and maybe capping it out at 100MH. Time to research…

umm… how do you confiscate a crypto coin without claiming the wallet? That’s disturbing. -
confiscate how? this is open source software and what they did is perfectly within the boundaries of what they can do if they have enough hashing power. The only thing that matters in making change is community consensus in changing the chain.
any miner worth his weight in feathercoins should have multiple pools setup in the miners.
Always have backup pools.
Whenever an attempt at a transaction is made the miners will need to confirm but they will know to be on the lookout for specific coins. In the process they will confiscate the coin and deny the transaction so that the non-guilty party does not lose their coins.

That is not possible with the way cryptos work right now. Plus it runs into another problem: policing. Who decides who has the power to confiscate coins from another party. It is a slippery slope you suggest.

I know, that is a possibility on how it can be altered - to at least deny transactions of those coins if not “confiscation”. Those who are confirming the transactions will decide just like they decide everything else on the network. -

yeah that would work if miners could actually mine. Also, it benefits just the pump and dumpers so you have just given a middle finger to the long haul people. -
There are possibly two FTC chains right now. Different pools are reporting different Network hash rates.

It’s nice to see that the attacks had little effect on today’s market value.
Yep, because devs here chose to ignore the attacks rather than take a price hit. Way to go with raising credibility of the coin.
