let’s see if FTC can get through all this
Not concerned. We take the attacks seriously, but as far as the future of the coin… that’s not even a question. We’ll figure it out and blaze a new path for other alt currencies that will face similar attacks if they ever see their value on the rise.
Just as a f*** y** to these wankers: Once we shake this off, we could use LeatherCoin as an incubator (WeatherCoin, as in weathered the storm) for alt currencies that we would like to take under our wing.
Think forward.

They failed today mostly because we’ve outhashed them. Low difficulty played nice for us. New and returning miners brought gigahashes into the network. We’ve got about 4GH/s by the end of attack while the attackers used ~2.5GH/s as before. Now we have about 5GH/s. It’s likely to decrease soon as difficulty has just increased (this minute) back from 47 to 66, but we’re not an easy target anymore.

I can imagine the poor kid sitting at his pc banging his fists on his keyboard going “No No No No They were supposed to crash!!! No No NOO!!” and spitting his pringles into his red bull. Poor little baby, he thought he’d damage the entire world with his super duper attack, but all he did was strengthen us and make us stronger.
His red puffy face and the tears of frustration streaming down his cheeks, yelling “Shut Up Mum!” as she opens the door and screams “What are you doing now?”
Poor wee little blighter… He Mad bro!!

As I do think the attack helped us, I doubt it is over. There is someone out there who invested a good amount of money and time into attacking the coin and he/she is not happy right now. He/she probably will try again within the week. At this point though, I feel that the attacker realizes that if an attack of that scale didn’t kill off the coin, but in fact helped increase its value, it might not be worth wasting more money and time. Either way we will stand strong against any attack.

Just spitballing but the current hashrate puts diff change every 12 hours or so.
What is going to happen to all the miners when the diff is at 200? That’s what 2 or 3 days away at current rate? That will probably put ftc mining value back to last weeks level. Also, the hashrate will probably go down to 200MH. If they were going to break a coin that would be the time to do it. That’s if they are to just destroy it. If they want to make some money then they’ll wait for it to go down again…
It’s unlikely to get difficulty 200 soon unless exchange rate jumps up. We’re about +30% more profitable than BTC at current difficulty 94. Next difficulty is 133 due in 7 hours or so. It will bring us parity with BTC. I expect exchange rate to increase again as the situation is under control. These attacks were excellent advertising in fact.

When we hit 133 the auto pools will move away from us. I’m not sure how much of the hashrate they make up but people who mine for direct profit will follow suit. Considering that we will be as profitable to mine as Bitcoin I expect that a fair bit of hashpower will simply stay with us. Not everyone jumped on to Feathercoin at once when the profitability and I expect that not everyone will jump off at once either.
This has been another exciting adventure in the life of Feathercoin.
There are a few ideas to protect us against attacks of this nature for some time to come. I am getting feedback and advice on these ideas as I do not want to put anything out there that has not been sanity checked.
That’s 2 hours away according to the stats page with a 4 GH rate which we’ve lost about 1GH since I went to bed and woke up. My concern is if “someone” is out to actually break the coin then once our difficulty gets to much then the for profit groups will move away. If the person is just to make a fast buck then nothing will likely happen. We will likely get to 166+ rate by tonight/tomorrow morning and that will a true test. Though if the people who are mining I think that are mining then are hashrate might drop down to 500MH if we are lucky. Right now I really want to be wrong on feeling…

With the difficulty keep increasing, this means that I’ll have to go mine back BTC soon. Even with difficulty 133, I feels like I’m farming at the same rate as BTC at the moment.
