Hello, crypton00b up in heah

Been following how to do stuff like bitcoin for awhile but it’s out of my scope so far as equipment goes. I have tons of machines and free power where I’m at so I plan on pumping up through that for while until I can get some graphics cards worth a hoot.
Anyway, heading down to the linux intro topic now because I can’t seem to get my cpuminer to autolaunch. Thanks for providing a place for a community to form!

Thanks for the welcome, folks.
Can I get some clarification, though? I asked some questions under the linux guide but realize now it may not have been something I did and instead is some sort of reality I’m facing. Like, two days ago I had a Core2Duo running and it was giving back hash rates, so I assume I was contributing something, even had some “yay” messages, which I assume are supposed to mean something.
I completely realize if my Atom-based and rPis won’t necessarily net results, but I figured my C2Ds would. Was there a shift in the last few days where CPU mining completely stopped being possible? Am I definitely going to have to get some graphics cards to keep up? Even without paying power, running a dozen machines ranging in different chips in the same pool isn’t going to help? I’m in nut2pool’s right now.
Thanks for any input.
*oh! One other thing. I put in instructions in order for cpuminer to launch everytime one of my machines boots BUT I have no idea how to check in on it to see if it’s working, because I assume it’s running background but not popping up in an active terminal window. What can I type in terminal to pull up the running info? I assume it’s working because when I shut down I see the whole “detected new block” messages even if I don’t manually type in to start.
