Rig stats and pics

I find this thread really fascinating. I am sure I know the answer but do you guys even break even on these rigs? Is there part of you that does this for the love of it?
when i push my 7970 oc editions to i 20 i get hw error
how much ram are you running? i noticed on my VisionTek 7950 that i got hardware errors on anything past intensity 13. it had 2 gig of ram installed at the time. i swapped the 2 gig into my 5850 rig and installed the 8 gig i removed. i ran the following commands again and voila, intensity of 20 with zero errors. really woke up what i thought was a pos card. seems these cards like a lot of fast ram 8)
for windows, run these from command window. i usually add it to my miner launch .bat files so it runs everytime. probably not necessary though
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100 -
Hmm most of my rigs have 2gb ram, but i got it on my previouse man rig with 2x7970 and 32gb ram. So dont think its the problem. Got it on other rigs with 8gb ram to.
Not sure if the problem has to do with it being 7970 and not 7950.
Think i have read somewhere that 7950 is easier to get good performance from vs 7970 -

Yeah, it’s typical to break even around 2-3 months, depending on what you’re mining. Lots of people who jumped on the alt craze and sold at peak broke even much sooner. With my 1750kh/s, I can make about $300 in coins a month, depending on what I mine. A single 7950 is about $315 at 650kh/s, bringing in around $3-4/day, less power costs.Cost of power can alter these numbers quite a bit, but the ROI of 2-3 months is pretty typical.

I broke even on my investments in two months, now i have a total of 23 cards paid for and still mining 8)

Nice rigs guys :) winner will be announced tomorrow.

Hi!I am running a rig with two 6990s getting an average hash of 1750 kh/s in total at 85 - 90°C per card and besides this system, I also have a 5970 in my work computer, which is hashing at an average rate of 675 kh/s at 75°C.
Both systems use standard air cooling.
How are you getting that hashrate with those 6990s??

I like this thread, thanks OP

I’d like to ask anyone who owns a rig, where did you get your design from and where do you source your parts?
I’m going to build myself a few crate rigs like the ones in the link below. I just need to find some suitable crates or racks. If anyone has a suggestion for a decent DIY rack for custom system please let us know.

I get my parts from ebay, Dabs, CCL or Scan. I’m in the UK.

Instead of purchasing four cards like HD7950, using PCIe extenders for all of them and designing some custom mounting, you can get any used Extended ATX case or 4U 19" rack for cheap. Set up two dual GPU cards like HD7990/HD6990/HD5970 inside, the additional cards may be added through extenders if necessary. This way saves a lot of time.
I couldn’t find crates in the UK hence why i went for my openair design. Cheap as chips and ALL part are available from B&Q. I think i’m gonna post build instructions along with where to source parts… watch this space…

Let me know what you use from B&Q. I can trek over there to get some parts.
Ever used a PCI-e splitter?

I have been thinking about using one. They cost about 180 bucks a piece. The only thing they do is allow you to have more cards on one board. But for that price you can get a new board, RAM and CPU combo. Another limiter seems to be the drivers, they are said to be only allowing 8 cards at max, but I have yet to see that. I got a bit stumped on my 7 card setup, without a splitter. If I get more cards I might just give it a try and see what those splitters can do.As a precaution though, they are meant for true x1 cards. They have tabs that hinder you plugging in 16x cards even if you cut away the back of the socket. So you would need a riser on top of it in some form.

Never used a splitter for mining but i see no issues with them. Would rather plug straight into the mobo though (via a passive 1x - 16x riser). looking at that splitter you will need to cut the end of the socket off so you can seat the card. Most mobo’s can support 4 cards and 2* 4 card rigs will be easier to build/manage than 1* 8 card rig.as for B&Q… gimme a few mins and i’ll compile a parts list

Here’s a closer image of how to assemble that lot. A bit “Mad Max” i know but it’s cheap and quick.
