Nope, never had an issue.I do only stick to 4 cards per board though and being 7970s they have an 8pin connector that allows more power than the 6 pins on the 7950’s. It seems that the PCIe power sockets are limited in current and any shortfall is drawn from the boards. As you’ve seen, Svennand had just melted his 24 connector (first i’ve seen from a reliable source) but he was running 6 cards on 1 board. :o
They’re dead easy to make though. Just cut through 2 wires on 1 side and 3 on the other, strip them, twist them all together, solder a molex, job done. If you do find you need to make some, make sure you CUT the wires else you’ll allow the current back through the track on the mobo and potentially burn the tracks. The bought ones aren’t cut.
Wops i did it again… fried two boards overnight…!
7950 is a NONO with 4 cards without powered extenders! (sapphire has 2x6pins connectors on their 7950)
Gigabyte 7950’s have a 6pin and a 8pin.
Still think you need powered extenders if your going to mine 4 cards=P. i’ve fried ALOT=P
Also with 4x7970 all having 2x8pins
You really have shitty luck mate, my current rig has been running a few months without powered risers, my rig before that used the same card setup with no powered risers since xmas.
Saying all that, I keep the rig in the shed in case it explodes, if it does I will call it the svennand curse :D

All minus 1 rig, i can hit 10,500khs but it’s usually lower than that because of heating issues, 6" in line fan should be here Monday. :)

Running 3 milkcrate 4card 7950 rigs without power extenders.

Heres my rig setup, both running Headless Xubuntu 12.10 , ATI drivers 12.10
First one is 4x 6970 different brands. CGminer 3.3.1, Engines 925 Mhz, Memclocks 1375 Mhz, TC 14024, Intensity 20
Fans 75%, Temps 65-77c. Cards are stable @ ~500Kh/s each…power consumption? dunno? :)Second is 3x 6970, 1x 6950 shaders unlocked. Cgminer 3.1.1 same Engs, Mems,Fans and TCs except for the 6950 has TC 8128
Temps 65-73c, the 6970s @ ~500Kh/s and the 6950 @ ~496 (The Sapphire dirt ed 6950 in pic is replaced with a XFX 6950 due to shader unlock problem)Desktop computer (no pic) with Win 7 runs one ATI 5970 @ ~700Kh/s Intensity 19 temp 83c

There’s mine… Older picture. Have more hashing power up and a 2nd shelf, too. 15MH, and expanding to about 20MH in the next day or so.
Top hashrates are from about 8 Gigabyte 7950s that do ~650KHs stable @ 75*C.
If anyone has any generic questions, feel free to ask. I have trained it periodically on FTC. Plan to do so after awhile on FTC yet again.

It’s the garage heater. Just a pair of little cards in there 7550 and 6670. Each good for about 100k – fan on the 7550 hardly ever even spins unless it really warms up in there…
Nice, tweeting that!

We are waiting for risers so it wont be like this forever
we got 3x 5970
The rig is doing about 2360 khs

I am very much an amateur miner.
I have one full time miner with a 270x running BAMT-SMOS 480KH/s (Thanks to Calem) @ 65C
When I’m not gaming I have my other rig part-time mining also with a 270x running BAMT-SMOS 480KH/s @ 65C
I’d put a pic up but it would embarrass me :-[

(2) MSI R9 280X… each hitting 700-715 at about 68c (with a small external fan)

Hello Minerphil! Nice to see yours is working!!!
-
my brothers and me got into mining currently we got 18 r9 270s and 5 r9 280x and a few other cards on are gameing rigs
here is some pics of are room we built with a ac added and 20 amp breakers. we have another rack like that going up at my house. still waiting on riser cables to hook some cards up. we will be somewhere around 13,000 kh/s with plans of hitting 25,000 with in a few months.
-
Powercolor 6950 2GB - unlocked to 6970 shaders - 74C - 503kh/s. Can post my cgminer config too if that helps.
-
playing with some of my r9 270 got them stable at 470KH/S @ 57 C. That is 940 for 2 cards. power consumption around 300 for a price $360 yea eat your heart out 290ss.
so had a few monster heat sinks laying around. they got put on mineing detail. the oher pic is what the temp is in our mining room

thats 2 cards together. it will be less once i start to under volt them some
-
they are the r9 270. we have asus, his and msi. the msi seems to be the more stable of the bunch. the are defiantly worth it considering you get 940 kh/s for $360 and can run them on a smaller power supply. they seem to be the best bang fot your buck on kh/s and power consumption. they also only have 1 6pin. just checked with meter they are actually around 140 and thats overclocked to
-
I’m also using a lot of R9 270’s / HD7850’s they are nifty little miners ::)
Amazing! I never considered the 270s before. I had no idea they were so efficient. I noticed that your pictures have 3 cards per rig. Since they dont use much power, why not put 5 or 6? Is the rig more stable with 3? Also, would you mind posting which MB you are using? I have been using the msi z77a-g45 and am looking to switch to something else for any future builds.
well we are using 750 watt power supply’s. my brother got a really good deal on them. we could run 4 on them it would be like 650 or so watts. we plan on adding more cards to them probably some r7 260x to fill the slot. we use allot of different motherboards. msi, evga, some intel boards. we had allot of boards laying around so we just pieced it together with what we had and then bought some new boards.
