Hello Forum =)
-
So here I am, I have recently starting mining Feathercoin as it’s impossible to mine Bitcoins or other coins with my graphics card (GeForce 9600GT ~ 8kh/s). I’m hoping to soon buy the Radeon HD 7950 which should produce 500+ kh/s :) My name is Markus, I am from Poland (but lived in UK for last 7 years now) I am 17 years old and study Software Programming (that’s how I came across Bitcoins). I was hoping that FTC would kick off like BTC or LTC in a year or two, that’s why I came, so hopefully would made some cash for the future. Have a good day ^^

Hi Markus! Thanks for your belief in FTC, having more support will definitely get us to where we plan on going :)
-
Welcome to the forums Markus and I’m pretty sure you’ll be here for the long haul if you’ve done your research on FTC. ^^
((Also, might want to take note that the 7950 will net you ~450-700Khash (not mhash)) whilst scrypt mining) ^^; -
Oh yeah sorry, forgot this is scrypt (my bad) but I still think it’s a good start :)

Hey Marcus, great to have you aboard. Let us know how we can help!

Yup, a 7950 is an excellent start into the mining world! xD -
ShadowEW, which version would you recommend and would it be possible to connect it to a resberry PI as my PC is only switched on 6h-10h a day so not much profit and the PI would run 24/7 :D the windforce 3x seems promising @ £266.56 http://www.ebuyer.com/342450-gigabyte-ati-7950-gv-r795wf3-3gd maybe you know a cheaper site or better version? Thanks a lot!

Sadly you can’t run your GPUs through the likes of an RPi, if you could I’d of been doing it since day one. :P
You’re in the same situation as me it seems, except I can only run for 5-6 hours a day. There’s been a lot of talk of the windforce 7950s being the favourite card to pick ,due to thier cooling abilities but aslong as you have good case airflow you could get something like :

£225, sell the games code for around £30-50, makes them £195-175 ea.SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7950 Boost Edition 3GB GDDR5 Graphics Card [21196-00] + 4 FREE GAMES!

£226, sell the games code for around £30-50, makes them £196-176 ea.Otherwise, take to eBay. None display cards (faulty) sell for £100-120 a pop. Could drop lucky and be perfect as a headless mining card. And used/working cards sell around £180 - 220,
If you’re not to confident you can run your cards cool with the stock coolers then opt for the Gigabyte windforce.
(Note, my 24/7 rig will soon have the 7970s + 6 x 120CFM fans in a regular ATX case and that should be sufficient enough for me to run them cool and 24/7)
Edit: From experience, the XFX DD (I have 7970s so slightly more heat) stay around 86C with the fans @90% and ambient approaching 32C where the current rig is and has been running awhile.
They are running inside this rig with 2x 120CFM Scythe Jyuni fans pointed at them at present:
