P2Pool troubleshooting, assistance please? ^^;
-
Hi there everyone, I’ve just been trying to figure out the ins and outs of running you/my own pool.
Done a little playing around and I have a pool up and running using p2pool-altcoins on localhost (VirtualBox). What I am a little confused for and about is that the pool (as soon as I start it) seems to have hashrates. I’m sure it’s just something as simple as a missed configuration but I’d like a little help trying to diagnose if someone has the time. ^^;Note: I understand running a VM for a pool isn’t ideal and this is mostly for finding my feet, not a public deployment of a pool.
(Although it might be beneficial to the community and a few members here if I can work out the kinks ;D)

Yo,
the _overall_ p2pool which your local p2pool is connected to, has a hash rate. This is displayed in the “Pool:” lines. This is the hash rate of all p2pool nodes that are interconnected via the p2pool network (for that currency).
The hash rate of your specific pool is in the “Local:” line - which is 0 for your pool. If there is no miners on your pool, that is perfectly okay. Once miners are pointed there (yours or others), the Local pool rate will slowly increase as it is a 10 minute average that is displayed there.
Does that clarify things?

I’ve kinda got the gist of it myself in the last day, I did a little more reading through the documentation and it does seem that is the case. I think, if I’ve read correctly, I can drop out of that ‘pooled network’ and fall back to just running my own pool. (which is my goal).
Thanks MrSheep for taking the time to look into this thread for me, and giving me that push in the right direction I needed.
I knew it was as simple as just overlooking a config or two but couldn’t work out where and why. ^_^ -
Would you be willing to make a guide for this when you are done :)?
If so, i’ll add it to the this Project topic: http://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php?topic=306.0

Possibly, possibly not. Don’t carve my name in for anything quite yet. I’m still trying to work out all the niggles and see what’s what.
I’m by no means confident in my setup yet. :)Edit/Update 16/05/2013:
Rather than bump this thread up (as I don’t want to :P) I’ll edit in an update.
I’ve had P2Pool working fine and stable now, understand what I need to do to get it running but… It’s just going to prove too much hassle for me to upkeep and maintain.
Yes it’s a little project and I’ve learned a little more about what it’ll require to be a pool operator and maintain such. Of which, kudos to those who run pools for us all, it’s much more work than it seems!
