\[Kickstart\] Link - The File Sharing Blockchain Protocol

Kevlar,
Now that you’re on to UI - I’d love to help out.
What I’d need is:
Window Size - if you plan on browser, or browser-window-in something. Good to restrict early on.
Pages - I’m guessing there’d be a Submit - Search - FAQ - About
Fields - For Submit + SearchAnother idea I had - it might be cool to have a entry field that asks for Creative Commons license. Eventually, LINK could also act as a source of CC content. This could get added on to keywords, but in the submit page rest as its own field.
CC licenses utilize a space - so I think we’d have to figure out how to circumvent it?
Ie
CC BY = CC.BY
CC BY-ND = CC.BY-NDThen that gets added to the end of the keyword meta - kitten,surprise,lulz,CC.BY-ND
And when searching - you can search by CC license.

Kevlar, I have just sent you 102 FTC towards this mind blowing project. Spend it anyway you see fit.
I have been quietly following this from the original thread, learning a bit everyday. Hats off to ALL you guys. This is one way that I as a layman can help.
Absolutely love the logo as well.
Keep up the innative work.

Fields - For Submit + Search
YES. Please!!! I’d LOVE that.
Window size: 1000px by however tall it needs to be, in standard browser. It’s just a web page.
Pages: You got it. Publish, Search, FAQ, and About. I tend to think ‘tabs’ instead of pages, since it’ll be done using client side templates anyway, so there’s no reason to make the user reload the entire page.
Fields: For publishing, the following fields are supported… and this is what the form should expose:
Payload - text or file attachment
File name - text (only when upload a file, and autopopulated when uploading)
Name - text
Description - text
Keywords - text
URI - text
Creation date - date/time (autopopulated when uploading a file)
Last Modified Date - date/time (autopopulated when uploading a file)
License - text or combo box (YES, LOVE THIS IDEA!!!)Now, as for search? One box. The rest should be results. One box can search all fields, and later we can talk about advanced search.

Another idea I had - it might be cool to have a entry field that asks for Creative Commons license. Eventually, LINK could also act as a source of CC content.
Nope, we can accomidate the space just fine in the license payload.

And when searching - you can search by CC license.
Yes. I’m adding it to the encoder/decoder and spec now.
I’ve been trying to get LevelDB working in Node all day. I’ve got it persisting decoded link sequences, but searching is proving to be a challenge. But once the search is working, it’ll be UI time real fast here. I expect to have it done by tomorrow, after which time I’ll start working on the Web API calls for the interface, while mnstrcck get’s some of the front end figured out (YAY!!!).
Your contribution is greatly appreciated, and keeps me working at this full speed ahead. ALL of you are to be commended for supporting me and the rest of the team on this effort. Your donations are what’s making this possible.
I can’t say enough good things about you all. Everyone who has stepped up to the plate has done so because they believe in the project and want to see it advance, and as a result of their support, it’s advancing VERY rapidly. Due to the massive support, right now this project has a LOT of momentum. If this speed keeps up, I’ll have something to put in all your stockings for Christmas. NO PROMISES, but it’s a good goal to work towards. Anyone who donated deserves a great big thank you from everyone who cares about this project.
When I’m ready, hopefully by Christmas, the client will be bundled up and will be sent ONLY to those who have donated, and support will be offered ONLY to contributors. This is how we will beta test, so if you want in on the beta test, now is the time to donate. The entire project is open source, so if you don’t want to donate, and you’re good with getting your hands dirty you can beta test that way, but early donators will have my support and my early releases of the client before it’s made available to the rest of the world.
In addition another round of fund raising will be proposed in order to meet additional feature milestones, but this time there will be tiered donation levels, and tiered rewards. Even if we get no more donations, I promise I’ll have for you a basic publish and search client that supports all of the data and meta-data spec.
If you have contributed prior to the second fund raising campaign, you will be considered a top-tier contributor NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU’VE DONATED. Even 1 FTC. You will also receive an exclusive early-adopter reward which will be unavailable at ANY price. So if you’ve donated, you’re in the exclusive club, and your early enthusiasm will be rewarded. If you wait, you can still get in on the beta test, but you will not be listed as a early supporter and the exclusive reward will not be available to you.
There’s one person who has donated more than anyone else, and that’s Tuck Fheman. He’s the one who made the flippant comment about a blockchain for music and movies that made me think through how to do it. He’s donated FTC, HBN, animated gifs, good questions, he’s even changed his sig to solicit more donations last I checked. There are other signifigant donators, like ZD, iawgoM, and mnstrcck, who have put in more than just coins, and they will be recognized as well. Finally there’s the amazing community that is Feathercoin, and it all will be immortalized in this project by the time I’m done.
Let’s keep this up, because this is working REAL well. :)

this such an awesome idea! im a few weeks away from being able to access my wallet (away at the moment) but will definitely be sending some ftc your way when i get back… keep up the awesome work

donated another 7 ftc. that’s 14 all together, thank you kevlar!

The internet, she has been awaiting a long time for this. (not litteraly just metaphoricaly.)
Good job man!
btw

I forked your forked art:
I actually really like this logo as well. Any chance we can have that one up aswell as a .psd or .ai?
If Link can be implemented into other coins, it could be a universal distinguishing feature in the logo.
And it’s fine for a fork, but Link is block-chain agnostic, and my client will support ALL coins, even multiple coins (publish on these blockchains). Feathercoin makes for a perfect test bed, and the community is the right one to adopt it into their coin and radically change how people use blockchains, but Link is, at it’s heart, for all coins.
For that reason, I’m afraid I won’t be using this particular submission, and will stick with the cross-branding free version as the official logo, but like all open source projects you’re free to fork the code and make a Feather-Link project. :)
Besides, the one without the feather is just cleaner. Cleaner, and brilliant. ;)

The cleaner one does sound better.
Actually, if all goes well, the obvious place to integrate this is the QT client. Then we can bring this back. ;)
Oh really?. Ah well kewl!
When I first saw it, I was only thinking about visual appeal, I didn’t really think about practicality but if mnstrcck’s forked idea has found a use, then that’s awesome. =^-^=

Wishing you all the best Kevlar. 20 of my beloved FTC’s are on the way.
You Rock!
-
10 FTC sent to you Kevlar, great work!
-
Thank you again everyone.
A significant portion of this has already been given to other contributors in an attempt to reward them for their contribution, and more will be given away as the new contributions arrive.
Progress report:
I’ve decided to give up on indexing solutions for levelDB and just do the search by hand, indexes be damned. This will be fine for the first iteration, and I can revisit the use of indexes once the blockchain actually starts to become populated with index-able meta-data. It’s not ideal, but it will work, and that’s probably more important at this point. Searches will rapidly become slow as soon as we have more than 10,000 items in the blockchain, but hopefully between then and now a solution will be found. I expect to have the database write and search functions done by today, and will keep you updated here.

Aaagh. I’m frothing on the floor. I WANT TO GIVE TO THIS PROJECT and can’t at the moment. Quick, someone tranquilize me out of my frustrated shakes.
(PS. LOVE the logos)
Hey, you didn’t send anything to me did you? I haven’t gotten anything, but hopefully I didn’t muck up my address on here… Yikes!
UI wise - I’ll start work on it in the next few days. What’s the best way to deliver? I’m a little rusty on code for some advanced stuff, but I can deliver PSD + CSS + HTML. If we’re running the code locally - I think it might be good to keep it small in size and KISS it [Keep it simple stupid]. But a few questions do remain:
1. Best way to handle jQuery if it pops up [dynamic tabs + dynamic form fields/ local - hosted if on devs end]
2. Best way to handle fonts? [I like to call on Google fonts - but not sure if there’s some issues that could arise with implementation]
3. Do you have any colour scheme in mind?Awersome!
I beg to differ, good sir. A chunk was just queued up for you. Expect it soon.
1. It’ll still be served up via a web server, but regardless there’s no problem just linking to a CDN jquery.
2. Google fonts are great.
3. Blues. -
Holy shtitzu! Thanks dude. I wasn’t expecting that!
Let’s go nuts with google apis!
I’ll do a draft in PSD before transforming. Sound good? -
Yes please. It’s always easier to make change in Photoshop. There’s more where that came from, I’m happy to give away most of what I’ve received to see this though.

This is awesome Kevlar! Donated 13.37 to you, and some rep. :D
