Hello,

I would like to propose a full redesign of the Feathercoin.com website. I have been looking for some front end coders for a few weeks now to take on the project and having just had a lengthy discussion with @iawgoM I would like him to head up the design and implementation. You can see his previous contributions to Feathercoin in his FTC Art Port Folio.

Here are my thoughts:
I want our site to look modern and professional. The front page should invite people to get involved and feel inclusive, not top down and patronising but communal and inspiring. People should come to the home page and feel like this is somewhere they can have some impact on this new digital economy.

I would like to suggest that a small team of people work on this over the next 7-10 days with a round table discussion at the end where the community get to have their say on the initial set of designs and layouts. If the response to this post means that more than 4-5 people want to be involved then I might suggest we break off in to smaller teams and join together in 10 days for a joint discussion.

My initial lineup would be:

@iawgoM
@mnstrcck
@chrisj

With guidance from Bushstar as lead dev, Entimp & Ruthie.

So if you would like to be involved please put yourself forward and say what you would like to bring to the mix.

Sounds great! I’m not able to code myself but I’ll be happy to announce my opinion whenever needed. ;) Looking forward to the results!

I like what GL has done too, the colour is a little too bold for me, but its clear and easy to read.

I will be happy to give you my take as someone who doesn’t understand all these coins? (But is learning) – the first thing I don’t understand is about “what” the downloads are for? I did a little research about “miners” and “pools” and I think I have a small sense of what that is this morning.

I would say that to someone like me? Your video on the front page was a HUGE draw. “Friendly”

Your logos? That feather is really gorgeous, and the feather emerging from the “chip” is also really gorgeous as a design. The minute I saw that in twitter, I loved that.

Looking at your front page? That feather could be a huge horizontal element where the grey bar is right now.

Your “politics” are what I like. “Robin Hood” – yesterday I researched all these different places that were “bitcoin” – but? It doesn’t feel like your place does? This morning now I see what a “wallet” is. Also, I saw you could buy a feathercoin in Ebay?

There is so much mythology around “feathers” – the feather in the cap, that old film “The Three Feathers” and so forth – also here in the US that feather resonates with American Indian motifs. It’s just a really strong and good symbol of something that is “alive” not “dead” – as it emerges from the image of “the chip.” Having a green feather makes it even stronger!

I hope that makes sense?

I used to design advertising for a newspaper in a different life. If you think about “branding” with that feather – think about how the Starbucks logo is recognized? (Although I don’t like them much) your logo has that same kind of visual weight!

xxoo!

I’m down for the challenge - and will have plenty of time once next week wraps up.

I can do a mock up of what I think would work well. Also maybe switch backends. Give-Me-Coins use Vanilla: http://vanillaforums.org/. We could also use NodeBB: http://nodebb.org.

My only request would be to make it mobile friendly while still supporting desktop display. Having the ability to pull out your smart phone and show a person what feathercoin is all about, without having to screw around zooming and scrolling on content, would be a god send. Either make the site mobile friendly or offer a mobile version that’s quickly accessible, extra points for redirection, from the home page. Want to get more folks interested in feathercoin? Make it easy to introduce them to it.

Ah you know what I did and put it in my Evernote for safe keeping and then never replied, sorry! I loved those ideas especially the one about letting the merchants download artwork like “Feathercoin Accepted Here”. Really good, I will make sure they make it in to the mix. +1 rep.

Hi, it’s nice that you always want to keep the innovation going. At the same time, your homepage is quite nice already, it’s one of the best cryptocurrency websites. I guess it could always look a little nicer of course, I think megacoin has a particularly nice looking one. But your website is one of the reasons I decided to get into feathercoin versus other cryptocurrencies that had more technical innovation. I do also think it looks quite modern already and the video you put up looks very current, many adverts on TV look like that at the moment so it espouses professionalism and appeals to the masses. You should make a whole ream of these style videos on different themes IMO.

So by all means keep innovating but I’d be careful not to go too far and try to fix what isn’t broken and make a royal mess of it like Google is doing with YouTube right now.

BTW I think taking some stylistic cues from the classic infographics style would work well for feathercoin, it is a friendly style but can express serious subjects and I notice a lot of people into crypto tend to be about late 20s to mid 30s, the age group grew up with infographics (Usborne etc), plus the style has a strong British tradition. Example: Royksopp’s video for remind me
Röyksopp - Remind me

A switch to NodeBB would be a very welcome one. I’m happy to volunteer my time on getting it configured and running. It’s a fairly straightforward stack: NodeJS, Reddis, and Websockets (excuse me while I fangurl), so a couple of “apt-get install” and “npm install” should be all that’s needed to begin.
