It seems the prices on GPU’s are dropping and more stock is coming available.
Last week the Sapphire R9 290 was very hard to get and costing €409,- and now they’re offered for €379,- from the shelf.
      Gimme gimme gimme… :-)

so, the interesting thing to ask here is how much better (in percent) does the 290 perform in comparison to the 280? :)

Not sure how I feel about the price decreasing as I want to buy cheap cards, but at the same time have been selling used cards that I bought for $25 for over $100. So conflicted :-\

I think what we are seeing is the last push from China before the new years (February) If you go on ebay, you can see some of the risers and what not with a 40 day lead time, and slightly premium price. Most companies shut down for a week or two during that period.

I’m just conjuring ideas, but, what will that mean for mining when for ~1 to 2 weeks we have no new product on the market. Any thoughts?

Needed to follow up on my own comment. haha. I’m hearing that (depending where you are at the world) the fact that these come by boat, they are being sold in transit, and by the time they arrive are going to the highest bidder. The current lowering is most likely the whales becoming satisfied with what they’ve got so far.
