Cheap radeon 7990 graphics card
-
I know its on a different marketplace but it allows me to accept ftc, btc and ltc and has a far bigger reach…
The marketplace here seems very stale or something? Maybe for expensive items anyway…

haha way overpriced at $1200 per 7990…you could get these for $600 each 2 months ago. As a warning to all members here, all 7990s run in more than a single card config will probably overheat or cause issues. Its a known problem that one of the 7970 gpus will develop a heat pocket when running 2x 7990s and overheat.
Dam I thought I found them cheap at a local pc shop and thought “I could sell these ::)”… so what is the best setup for scrypt mining? I thought these where the best?

7950 was the best when it came to cost/performance. 7970 was the best for “how much power can I cram within this area”. 7990s have always been more expensive with not much to show for it in the cost/performance arena. I don’t know if I could’ve gotten one for $600 two months ago, but I do know they were going for around sub$1000 when I was building my 7950 rig.
Anybody poised to actually buy graphics cards in the coming weeks is keeping their eye on the R9 280x.
Interesting, so with your rig what kind of kh/s are you getting? And is it very profitable? What altcoin do you mine?? :)
Newegg had them on sale between $600-700 with 8 games included for the last month before the R9 series was launched. The problem was there was plenty of 7950s and 7970s at the time and the 7990 was just awful on release with plenty of coil whine and the heat pocket in dual 7990 configs. At close to $1 per KH/s it would be like having $700-750 R9 280x/7970s.
7950 -> R9 280(unreleased): 650KH/s @ $200 MSRP
7970 -> R9 280x: 750 KH/s @ $300 MSRP
7990 = 2x slower 7970s
R9 290: 800+ KH/s @ $400 MSRP
R9 290x: 850+ KH/s @ $550 MSRPRight now prices are up about 20-45% depending on which retailer wants to gouge you on price. These prices have already started to drop back to MSRP and there are a large # of R9 series cards on their way to retailers.
4x 7950 Sapphire, 2.6-2.8MH/s, profitability relative, mine other coins when they’re really high on the profitability chart but when it’s negligible I mine FTC.
Holy crap I managed to make a sale :D pfff overpriced hahaha not in my books haha ;)
Welp, there’s always someone out there to pay any price, it’s just a matter of time.
That sounds like a nice setup, I was actually just looking at the sapphire 7950 and to setup a decent rig with 3 of them would cost me something like 1400 euro so I’m thinking buy the parts seperately over the next few months to make it easier :)
Also how long does this sort of rig last? Does mining not wear them out? My brother went mental when I used his new laptop to mine for like 5 minutes saying its messing up the computer ???
If I keep it ventilated well enough I anticipate it’ll last as long as the kinetic parts on it work.Yeah, using a laptop for this sort of thing isn’t advisable. Laptops aren’t built for endurance 24/7 computing, much less anything strenuous like mining.

I’m going to attempt to build this with a tonnes of extra cooling fans :) just want to know if when you build a rig do you have to buy the os and install it yourself?
Lubuntu is free, but I do whatever I can to avoid Windows. Plus I can run it off a 16GB stick on a USB 2.0 port so that I can turn the USB 3.0 and SATA bus off in the BIOS to save a little power. Not have to worry about a hard drive failing, either.
Sure the only os I know how to use is windows haha I’ll probably just install 8.1 so that if the miner ever runs out of shtuff to mine I can still use it as a gaming pc :)
Use Cryptobadgers guide on setting up the linux install. It’s good enough to run the miner and his guide is step by step. If you run into any problems his forum is active also and he’ll reply to problems eventually. If he doesn’t, one of the forum members will. Or just ask here. Many smart brains on this forum.
