Seeing how most people can get 10K+ Dogecoin per day, Dogecoin seems like the logical next choice for Link … am I wrong?I’m assuming the cost would still remain .2xxx XYZcoin on average to publish. Dogecoin would make much more sense (for my wallet).
Don’t get me wrong, I love the fact that Kevlar released Link on FTC first … but, economically speaking Dogecoin makes much more sense for Link.
If you agree, you can donate to Dogecoin support for Link at the address in my sig.
Doge, or Moon. Those are being mined like crazy and value is staying low.
This is a really interesting point. I would think however that the circulation of Link will promote more FTC mining/increase the popularity of the coin vastly and it won’t have to be just the old guard expiring their FTC to publish. No other coin is remotely doing this right? The idea of further deflation to increase value is entrusting the FTC community to have the faith that doing their part by publishing on Link will down the line in turn actually make more sense for their wallet. It’s a pretty darn new way to control ‘opposite velocity’ if that even exists. It’ll be interesting to watch the FTC Total Supply number and 24h Volume over the next couple weeks.
Not sure what parameters would be considered before making the decision to wait or immediately add another coin?
I agree with you on the higher pool of coins on DOGE - but seriously, its not more than a joke. - Pump and Dump nobody needs that.
And as Horizon mentioned maybe we should wait before adding immediately another coin.
DOGE, CAT (did a microtrade of 0.01 BTC - actually 17.6k DOGE - for 0.01 CAT), FTC, and WDC. FLUX is going to have to be EXTRA careful. A single exchange can involve 42 spends (and that’s assuming sections of the asynchronous process only happen once, lal). Also Moon seems to have choked. CageCoin too.
@Kevlar, does the explanation http://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php/topic,6407.msg48116.html#msg48116 make it clearer?

The name is the only joke. The light heartedness removes the anxiety from the currency. Hell it’s a random number. Might as well have called it GumpCoin. You never know what you’re gonna get.
You see for most people, money just feels like a noose around their necks. Everything they do involves this uninvited, obnoxious, intrusive, cocaine-dust-covered, interrupter-of-the-conversation, known as money.
People tend to resent that aspect. DOGE takes that feeling away. DOGE didn’t wait for banks to accept it before they were willing to SELL HAUSEN. #justsaying.
The name is a joke. The psychosocial freedom it offers is not.
I would hesitate to invest in a currency that did not remove the principal resistance people have to innovating and participating in a community. Same as I wouldn’t buy a car with no backseats so you can ride with company and friends.
You’re thinking of them as currencies rather than communities. Wait until the dullar really starts to unravel. FloridaCoin, CaliforniaCoin, BamaCoin, MauiCoin. Think I’m joking?
Catcoin is striving for something especially important: Bitcoin in scrypt. I’m all for FTC because this community MADE it happen and FTCers think outside the box. But we’re going to need to jettison the passive dead weight that’s holding back the One Troo Coin. The hashrate in Bitcoin is ridiculous. The majority of it is NOT for any product or service. And the necessary race between miners has become an arms race between speculators. This sort of pretend economics is scaring people who want to do small business away from the autism of speculation.

I refer to my last post again, reply #29 on page 2. But I think it should remain FTC for as long as possible. Maybe that’s a week, two, a month, a day. I don’t know. That’s the developer’s call and clearly that’s the way it should be. But I absolutely believe getting other quickie alts involved so soon only hinders the power of the initial rollout of Link as an example of FTC differentiation. This is the PR campaign we muster up for Link as a community after one day? We’ve been waiting for this innovation to set FTC apart since total supply was always ‘fixed as BTC 1/16 FTC’s supply’ in the mainstream perception. Now Link allows us to control both innovation but ALSO supply - so quick to give that up? Edit: Isn’t the key for Link to work - initially - as an FTC innovation, adoption? So bring on those FTC miners waiting in the wings…
The key is to get something out there that blows people’s minds. They already know we were first. Getting quickie alts to use it furthers the reputation of the community. That’s what makes us active rather than passive. We stand out as a community, regardless of the features of our coin.
Also this isn’t about differentiation. It’s about solving problems. When people complained about “I don’t see any difference” we said ORLY? Our differences, check 'em.
But our differences promote the Community, not the Coin.
I wouldn’t presume to know the answer. That’s why I put up the future page, so you all could decide for yourself. I agree with everything everyone is saying, especially about publishing prices, but I still can’t tell you what the right decision is. I think publishing at a premium may be desirable to certain markets. It’s in your hands now to answer the question, and perhaps much more importantly, make it the right decision once it’s been made.

Kevlar - thanks for your awesome contributions and providing this innovation (just sent 10 FTCs ;) ). While reading this thread some questions came to my mind and maybe you can help me understanding a bit more about it (hope it’s not too stupid to get them answered and maybe they were answered already and I did not see it)?
It’s mentioned that adding files to link consumes FTC’s - they are “virtually” taken out of the system by sending it to an FTC address with an unknown private key.

How did someone generate an FTC-address without knowing the private key?

How is it ensured that no one gets access to that FTC’s?
By removing FTC’s from the system and having a deflation … let’s predict a successful future for LINK meaning an increased sharing of information…

What happens if Link starts consuming too much FTC’s? It could concur with FTC as a currency to be available for trading other goods (although LINK and sharing information is a good too)?

Is it maybe planned to reactivate the virtually consumed FTC’s
And now - I’m outing myself … how do I create a magnet link? Did a short google but it’s mainly connected with torrent and clients where I have to add the file and could get the link for it - but is this the recommended way?
About the blockchain … I already saw e.g. an embedded Linux distribution - assuming some hundred MB in size? If this data is really stored in the blockchain … does this mean I’m downloading this data with my FTC-Client? And if so - isn’t this a way to dramatically increase the disk space usage?
Sorry for that many questions … hopefully I’m not the only one asking this.

By all means, anyone looking to dump FTC at a “good price” go right ahead (if that’s what this is about) and let Link provide that driving force for you. ::)
I just didn’t think that was the purpose. But, I understand. To each his own and I apologize if I stepped on anyone’s wallet.
It is blockchain agnostic. Horizon, Link has been promoted for a while now.
This community has been, despite the huge campaign in its inception, blockchain agnostic. We want solutions, not just a marketable product.
I was thinking about this as I was reading up on the progress last night. I’m planning to publish something in the next few days, so when I do, I will try to put together a beginner’s tutorial. I think that adding a small section on how to publish would be a great addition in the future, but I also think that adding the ability to upload .torrent files will make things easier as well. I can’t decide whether I would rather have .torrent support or a browse-able index, but I’ll pick one and donate very soon. Keep up the good work!
