[ANN] Link is live: http://blockchain-link.com

Kevlar - thanks for your awesome contributions and providing this innovation (just sent 10 FTCs ;) ). While reading this thread some questions came to my mind and maybe you can help me understanding a bit more about it (hope it’s not too stupid to get them answered and maybe they were answered already and I did not see it)?
It’s mentioned that adding files to link consumes FTC’s - they are “virtually” taken out of the system by sending it to an FTC address with an unknown private key.

How did someone generate an FTC-address without knowing the private key?

How is it ensured that no one gets access to that FTC’s?
By removing FTC’s from the system and having a deflation … let’s predict a successful future for LINK meaning an increased sharing of information…

What happens if Link starts consuming too much FTC’s? It could concur with FTC as a currency to be available for trading other goods (although LINK and sharing information is a good too)?

Is it maybe planned to reactivate the virtually consumed FTC’s
And now - I’m outing myself … how do I create a magnet link? Did a short google but it’s mainly connected with torrent and clients where I have to add the file and could get the link for it - but is this the recommended way?
About the blockchain … I already saw e.g. an embedded Linux distribution - assuming some hundred MB in size? If this data is really stored in the blockchain … does this mean I’m downloading this data with my FTC-Client? And if so - isn’t this a way to dramatically increase the disk space usage?
Sorry for that many questions … hopefully I’m not the only one asking this.

This is the PR campaign we muster up for Link as a community after one day?
Sorry, I got all caught up in Link being blockchain agnostic and lost my head.
By all means, anyone looking to dump FTC at a “good price” go right ahead (if that’s what this is about) and let Link provide that driving force for you. ::)
I just didn’t think that was the purpose. But, I understand. To each his own and I apologize if I stepped on anyone’s wallet.
It is blockchain agnostic. Horizon, Link has been promoted for a while now.
This community has been, despite the huge campaign in its inception, blockchain agnostic. We want solutions, not just a marketable product.

@Kevlar, does the explanation http://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php/topic,6407.msg48116.html#msg48116 make it clearer?
I’m still trying to wrap my head around it all, but I trust that you have things under control.
-
congratulations!
-
Link is revolutionary, you have done a really awesome job Kevlar. 8)
For the Team, Can we add link to the Tools drop down menu on feathercoins main page?
-
This is Incredible however I will have to get with you to figure out exactly how to use LINK as
I have not quite got it yet. -
I was thinking about this as I was reading up on the progress last night. I’m planning to publish something in the next few days, so when I do, I will try to put together a beginner’s tutorial. I think that adding a small section on how to publish would be a great addition in the future, but I also think that adding the ability to upload .torrent files will make things easier as well. I can’t decide whether I would rather have .torrent support or a browse-able index, but I’ll pick one and donate very soon. Keep up the good work!

Browseable index ftw
Who would give 250 ftc for dogecoin support :o

CheckaZ beat me to it :)

is the marketing team doing all they can to promote link? I know it is still very early days but there doesn’t seem to be any big hype about it. I have e-mailed coindesk providing them a link to this thread, and I have been shouting about link going live on btc-e but no one seems to know what I am talking about.
I think it is important to try and create as much media interest as possible, especially in these early stages as feathercoin is the first coin to adopt it.
He must be hoarding a lot of those and trying to get the price up.
I don’t know how valuable Link is but I hope it stays with FTC only for a while. As for ‘Link’, I haven’t had the time to follow it but it sounds interesting. So good luck Kevlar.
How about making a bitcointalk thread about it? :D -
True, it should get more attention since it is a great concept…
Maybe we should start: www.thefeatherbay.com ? -
I’d love it if someone would. I’m trying to let the community decide just how much they want to spread it around… I can only assume it’s a matter of time before the conversation itself goes viral. ChrisJ and I are talking about options for other venues, more on that as things develop.

Not wanting to hijack the thread here.
As I was standing in line at the bank, it occurred to me that the trip should not be necessary.
Anyone can send to me by my Feathercoin wallet. And “Link” can record the transaction.
If I understand correctly?
How cool is that? The Paradigm shift is taking place right before our eyes.
And I thank everyone for contributing to this one, especially Kevlar. Only one or two would
anyone expect to see in a lifetime. This is surely one of them.
No I don’t think you understand correctly. :P Feathercoin transactions do not need Link at all.
“Link” is for sharing data through the blockchain, and it seems the advantage to that is that the blockchain cannot be taken down. -
Thank you
I know that Link is not needed to make Feathercoin transactions. I have already been doing that.
I just was thinking that with Link, the transaction could be viewed at a later date, even without the wallet?
After a long period of time, the wallet info could get congested. Or I am wrong again? Ha
Feathercoin records the transaction, the wallet gives it to you.
Link isn’t necessary. The issue is still the lack of payment processors. FLUX + Link will address this though.
The wallet is the viewer. Or you can use a blockchain explorer if you know your address.
