I actually have a question. Since only the developer has the Control to the checkpoints, what if he’s seized by political force or died?
Then the whole coin is dead too?

Peters already answered that, but we’ve seen with the rebirth of Phoenixcoin, that we would just fork the Github source. Then carry on as normal.
