Hey guys,

got a bit of an issue going on here. My new R9 280X VAPOR is playing tricks on me.
When ever I start CGminer it comes up with a perfect 720Kh/s and stays stable for about 2 minutes. After that the hashrate is slowly decreasing (1 min timelaps) till it reaches around 620Kh/s. It wont go up or down from that point. I just can’t seem to figure out where this 100Kh/s Drop is coming from? cause the temp stays at 75c.

Hardware:
PSU: Corsair AX1200i
CPU: AMD Phenom2 X4 (45c)
Mobo: Asus m5a78L-M
Ram: 8gb
HDD: 1tb Satall
GPU: R9 280X VAPOR

Scrypt:

set GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1

cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://pool.d2.cc:3333 -u USERNAME -p PASSWORD --intensity 13 --worksize 256 -g 2 --thread-concurrency 11200 --gpu-engine 1050 --gpu-memclock 1500

Got the newest catalyst drivers and the “AMD APP SDK v2.”

I really have no clue where this is coming from? Am I missing something obvious here?

I know allot of you guys run the 280X cards so maybe you can help me out on this one!

Cheers in advance!

well, it could be, that the temperature stays at 75° because the hashrate is throttled by the GPU.

you could try to set the temp-target and temp-cutoff parameters in cgminer to a higher value than 75° and see what happens

I had the same ‘problems’ with two VAPOR cards two weeks ago running on 1080/1500 stock BIOS.
I also had DUAL cards which run out of the box a solid 750kH/s, same settings.
So i never really tried what was wrong with the VAPORS and returned them for DUAL cards.
Maybe a faulty batch ?

added this line to the scrypt --temp-cutoff 95 --temp-overheat 85 --temp-target 85
Same story cuts it off round 73c so that’s probably not the issue :(

Okay, so maybe it’s something caused by the heat for it to happen after some minutes.
Is your PSU powerful enough ?
What voltages do you run the GPU ?
What happens if you change the bios switch ?

Hey, i am using R9 280X Vapor-x’s too, and i am getting a 740Kh/s peaking up sometimes to 900Kh/s which i think it’s insane for this GPU…

Here is my batch line right now:
cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://p2pool.org:9377 -u USERNAME -p PASSWORD -I 13 -w 256 -g 2 --thread-concurrency 8192 --gpu-engine 1050 --gpu-memclock 1500 --gpu-powertune -20 --gpu-fan 65-100

got the corsair 1200 so thats out of the question.
stock voltage not undervolted.
can’t change it now i’m at my daily job will give that a try also.

Thanks! I tried it and with your batch it runs up to 675Kh/s and stays there at a temp of 65c.
So the hashrate is higher but the temp lower… beats me…

EDIT Oh see that the FAN speed is +/- 3350 RPM where it was +/- 2200 RPM on my original batchfile. That explaines the temp difference…

So I found out that you’re particialy right.
The new VAPOR cards came with a BIOS update. The update prevents the cards from overheating and cuts them off at 75C.
Can’t upload the old bios and there is no easy way to get around it. so basicly the cards are useless…I’ll sell mine when the Toxics get in stock. for now its hashing on 630Kh/s

Did you try to toggle the switch on the cards, made any difference ?

I think you can just flash the toxic or dual bios on it or even an older vapor bios ?
BTW undervolting them might cool them down. I have my duals running 1175mV and 68C !

I can’t seem to locate the switch on the card. The only thing i can find is the Sapphire logo button to overlock it.

And according to this tread: http://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php?topic=6484.0 you can’t change the bios.
and tbh I don’t really know how the undervolting works… :(
