[Solved] Steps to move Wallet to new PC- Various
-
Hey guys,
I’ve bought a new laptop, and I intend to give my old laptop to my wife. I’ll be removing my old HHD (I never like to format, just incase)
Obviously I need my wallet.dat file… I backup often. But do I need anything else?
On my new PC I have downloaded an installed the feathercoin client, it has downloaded the block chain.
Whats the best / correct way to move my wallet?
Move the wallet.dat file over? Hope it shows up? Or move over more files? .
OR
Just sent my coins to my new wallet address on my new pc? lol. … and remember to update my payment address everywhere.
Cheers guys.

A backup of all files is never bad - put them in Dropbox (if it’s safe) or on an USB (if not infected) and then replace the wallet.dat file from your old PC with the one of your new client.

Sendig coins from the old wallet to the new one definitively does the job.
Another way:
on the old pc:
-start feathercoin
- open a console window in feathercoin (Debug-> console)
- type dumpprivkey
- copy/note/write down the resonse, which is your provate key for that address
on the new PC;
-Start feathercoin
-open console window in feathercoin- type importprivkey
repeat the above for all addresses you have
done :)
the help command in the console window gives a list of commands

Cheers guys, appreciate that! +1

Don’t forget :
If you’ve encrypted your wallet you’ll need to unlock it before transferring Private Keys “off net”…
walletpassphrase [passphrase] 1000
