Media Setups?
-
Hi All,
First off i would like to say Hello, and how i like this community. I thought i would start a topic on media setups? If anyone on here is like me you may watch a lot of Movies and TV and wondered what people here have geeky setups
Lets start with TV, Nothing special Samsung 42" 3D LED TV, not a bad tv but as a lot of people say after some time could do with a Bigger TV…
Storage:
I currently have 4Tb HDD storage, connected to my raspberry Pi which is powered from the back of my BTHomeHub3. I have my raspberry Pi connected over cat5 to my BTHomeHub to enjoy fast access without wifi dropouts but due to the fact its sitting next to the Hub it may aswell be on a cable. My raspberry Pi is currently running raspbian which i have installed a samba server.Streamer:
You may have guessed it, i have another raspberry pi this time powered from the back of my TV (USB Port). This Pi as openelec (XBMC) installed. Firstly i would like to recommend anyone that enjoys films and tv shows to check out XBMC such a great piece of effortless software to use. My raspberry pi outputs at 1080p without issue no lagg, i purchased a IR remote for the Pi works a lot better then the iOS app for ipad and iphone. My Pi streams all content from the raspberry pi connected to the BThomeHub without issue. The bonus is openelec does all cover art, keeps track of what you have watched and when booting check my HDD to confirm nothing new as been added. Why:
Now im guessing someone is going to say why waste time with the 2nd Pi connected to the router, well if you are then you can join my mates Hahaha. The reason i have the Pi connected to the router is because the router is turned on 24/7, So i look at that as i can access my 4TB hard drive on my laptop, iphone, ipad anytime to stream. The most important reason for me is because i use that pi to do all my downloading. After installing FileZilla, and VNC Server i can remote desktop up to my Pi using Lappy, iPad what ever i have to hand to kick off a download. So when i leave the house my pi can be downloading what ever without leaving pc on, or downloading on laptop to copy manual to usb hard drive. The winning point for me is as soon as i turn my living room TV on openelec boots up checks hard drive sees know content downloads artwork etc automatic and im good to go.Please feel free to post your setups :) …
