Well of course I do, let me PM you next week when I have an address to send it to. I’m between flats this week.
roger that. You’ll be on your own for a decent wifi connector that’ll work without having to screw around with ndiswrapper, though. Everything I have that I can offer is pretty anti-linux, apparently. -
Send me some dimensions of what you have and I will see what I can do about getting you a casing designed, will send over the CAD diagrams for you to take along to a local engineering company to have it made up

I want one for our shop! That would be awesome. This is the coolest thing I’ve seen all day.
Just seeing it gave me an idea. I could build a MAME arcade with a raspberry pi…instead of pumping quarters in, it could scan qr codes and work with FTC…
The whole thing would take up about as much space as a toaster, but I would house it in a full sized arcade box anyway.

Sorry guys may last post was a little disjointed (blame ChrisJ I was chatting with him) so 1st off +1 @Kevlar for finding this.
If you guys sort the tech side of it out, and tell me what your thinking of putting in the box, I’ll work a design out and release the CAD drawings open source, that way anyone can take the drawings along to a reasonable engineering company and get the finished product made up.
What I’m proposing to get the ball rolling is, you guys get hold of the local currency note acceptor something similar to this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Coinco-BA30B-Dollar-bill-acceptor-validator-DBV-mars-/171236720321 work with the dev team to get it running with the code/software/application send over a couple of photos for me to look at, we can talk about the dimensions I’m going to need based on the photo’s and we then incorporate that into the open source CAD files as a case suitable for taking that kind of note acceptor, over time the number of drawings will build up to include many different types of note acceptor, for different currencies only limited buy it working with the code, and someone asking for drawings to be made for the dimensions of it.
As it’s all open source it doesn’t all have to come back to us, people can take the general design we have drawn and adapt it to fit their local note acceptor rinse and repeat :)
If the devs could give it a little screen, to display current exchange rate, etc then that would be even better. There are a couple I’ve been looking at for other projects on eBay at the moment such as this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131095250214?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 if you want me to send one of these over Kevlar let me know and I’ll make it happen!
Heck we could even build the casing to take a small, low cost mining rig that would allow the whole thing to become carbon neutral if you wanted too.
Now my heads spinning with way more ideas than a bottle of red allows for, but I hope you can see where I want to take this.

Would this work as a portable unit ? So it could connect wirelessly ?
I just imagine attending bitcoin conferences etc promoting feathercoin … Would be a brilliant tool for this
-
Some of the things you guys come up with make me want to piss my pants …
Seriously though, this would be absolutely awesome if it can be made reality for Feathercoin. I would love to tour the UK showcasing something like this. I love it!
If I can connect my wifi only iPad to the internet by creating a wifi hotspot with my mobile phone, then this unit could be carried anywhere and used to promote Feathercoin at any location.
Imagine being able to attend any event, private or commercial, to be able to connect the unit to the internet, by wifi or 3G, and be able to promote Feathercoin, showing people the current trading value, and them being able to insert cash and receive Feathercoins in return. That would be brilliant!
Make this happen and the Feathercoin community will really show what it is made of. More importantly it will showcase Feathercoin in ways that only Bitcoin has currently been and help propel us to the next level!
Please make this happen :D
How about something with a 150x150mm foot print? is that small enough for you?
I’ve done a quick drawing that is to scale of what something like this could look like with the note taker on the front, and then a little 3.2" screen and the printer on the sloped “top”
Is it possible to have a machine that also takes coins ??? Given the price of FTC, even a few £ would get someone some coins after all. Just a thought, obviously it would make the size bigger …
-
I’ve spent a bit of time looking at the hardware side of this, only because I wouldn’t have a clue where to start witht he software. I’m hopin gthat Kevlar is going to work on that :)
The current circuit diagram and spec for the note take, delivers a number of pulse to indicate the donomination of the note inserted, I’m struggling to find a UK based note taker that does this but in therory if we can find a taker be it note or coin as long as this is the method in which it passes the signal back to the device, and the software lets us configure the value based on the number of pulses yes you can have a coin taker on it. The tin work for housing the thing is only a case of chaging the hole and mounting points to take the new device.

Is it similar to self service till equipment that we are after?
-
MyWyrm, I don’t think so but could be stood correted. This is simply a mecanisum for one to insert cash and then get a print out of a private key containing coins to the value of the FIAT inserted
-
I mean the coin input bit. Surely those self service tills have a method of converting fiat coins and paper into a digital value?
-
OMG guys…
Seriously do this ahy.
In a few months, If this can work out, I would gladly try to put one together here in Australia…
Truly epic…
-
There’s coin counting projects for R-Pi, I suspect notes will be a little more tricky though.

Can’t we just wait for their kit to become available?

Can’t we just wait for their kit to become available?
Answered my own question. The Pyramid Apex 7000 doesn’t list GBP as a supported currency.
-
In addition to that, there version only supports an off-line device. We where looking at making this an on-line device so the exchange rate was up to date etc…
I need to do some more hunting around note and coin takes to get a better understanding of the hardware, as from what I’m seeing this should be fairly simple to make it work with any given currency once we have chosen the correct type of note/coin taker.
I’ll try and get on it tomorrow if I have some spare time, but between real work and the charity thing I’m a bit sort of time at the moment.

Got in touch with pyramid tech. They do have a GBP firmware for their devices. Available as MDB, RS 232 or 12 Volt pulse mode.
-
+1 Well done sir :)
Now all we need is a coin taker as that solves the note issue. Would make the case simpler if we could re-use the device for as many currencies as possible.
