United States Senator wants to Ban Bitcoin....
-
What are your thoughts about this? I think that he doesn’t understand bitcoin or the dollar.
-
“has been used in illicit activity, including drug trafficking and money laundering”
Because none of these things happen with the Dollar, ::)
It’s too late for these wheezy windbags, the next generation is here and we brought our own currency.
-
Due to Bitcoin’s anonymity, the virtual market has been extremely susceptible to hackers and scam artists stealing millions from Bitcoins users.
What do they care about Bitcoin users being scammed if they want the whole thing banned? Whatever.
Can’t stop the signal, Mal.
-
How can you ban something that you as a country have said in the past doesn’t exist?
-
Wrote him, no shits given:
Joe, you might want to rescind your Bitcoin post.
It makes you look very, very ignorant. You may ignore the rest of what I have to contribute by that assertion, but you would be doing yourself a huge disservice.
1. You’ve obviously not followed the the conference in New York, and it would be best if you brushed up on that:
http://www.wired.com/wiredenterprise/2014/01/new-york-bitcoin/
There are people out there that are with you and want to regulate it, but they actually took a few minutes to understand the technology and the underlying protocol before shooting their mouth off. You might want to catch up to see which of those guys you want to hitch your wagon to.
2. Bitcoin is not anonymous. It’s never been anonymous. It’s pseudononymous. It has a publicly accessible ledger called a blockchain by which you can follow all transactions that have ever occurred on the network. It’s more “dangerous” in terms of wanting an untraceable transaction to use Bitcoin than it does to simply use cash. If anonymous transactions are what is getting you upset, perhaps you’d want to propose to the Fed that the dollar should be outlawed and all of our currency should be handled by 3rd party corporations?
3. China hasn’t banned Bitcoin. Plenty of Chinese users utilize it for person to person transactions and to protect assets from theft. A couple of major exchanges that American users operate out of China, even, legally. Kind of hard to operate a legitimate business that deals with bitcoin if it’s been banned. Plus, do you really want to be THAT politician that says “China restricts freedom of it’s citizens, we should be more like China and also place restrictions”? I’m sure that just thrills your constituents.
4. It’s “wary”, not “weary”. You’re not “tired from exertion of Bitcoin” (unless you count your own excrement from the mouth or fingertips?), you’re wanting to show caution to possible dangers, “wary”.
5. Why do you care about people who lost money at Mt. Gox if you want to ban the use of Bitcoin anyway? Is that not the epitome of hypocritical stances?
FFS, Joe, I’m 16, and I have a better grip on what’s going on out there in the world of cryptocurrency than you do, and I don’t have a staff of aides that are supposed to be keeping me in the loop. It fills me with absolute fury that someone like you has been entrusted to make any decisions on behalf of the people; if you had your way we’d be living in a dystopian mix of the worlds of Atlas Shrugged, Brave New World and 1984.
You can’t stop the protocol. You won’t stop the protocol. The only thing your hope for “banning” or at the very least regulation will result in honest, innocent people being criminalized, because, as per usual, those that actually mean us, the American people, harm have never given a single, solitary shit about bans or regulations.
You empower those criminals and their financial backers when you publish nonsense like this.
Prove to your constituents you’re not one of them.
