Play to Cure Cancer
-
Hi all just saw a great TV program about Play to Cure which is an android/iOS game designed to process cancer cell data to help Cancer Research.
Its actually quite a good game and you can’t really get a better cause. :)

Nice initiative… processor power for data analysis, right?
We have a lot of processors embedded here and there that could contribute to things like this, why not to use them?
Gonna try it!
[OT but not so much]
BTW, I think this is the same idea that made the Flappy bird author withdraw his app… but now he is puttin’ it back on (maybe with some upgrade). I think it will hide a miner for the flappycoin, actually the most profitable coin around (they say).
Maybe I’m just paranoid but the timing looks suspicious.

Ah right no this game does not use hidden background processing power. Its by Cancer Research UK so is legit.
As part of the game you have to manually click on a genetic output of a cancer cell to identify the areas with a lot of activity. In the game this is used as a map as you are trying to collect this with your space ship.
Its a really clever idea. It means you can have free (apart from the cost of creating the app) labour for processing cell data rather than have paid professionals doing it.

Don’t worry I wasn’t arguing its legitimacy, just wondering what the process could be. I thought it may be similar to those distributed calculation software for protein folding and similar.
I already installed but I’m still at my uni so I didn’t have time to try it. I’ll try to do some work for them as soon as I get home!

Ah right now I see what you mean. Yeah I like those distributed calculation processing apps. Such as SETI. I used to have that on my home pc its really quite a cool concept.
I believe is it Gridcoin was designed to try and allow mining via these actually useful calculations. I had a quick look but it seems reasonable complex to setup.
would be a nice thing to supprt tho. Maybe that could be our new Hashing Algorithm.
