[Dev] Introducing featherPay - Point of Sales Device
-
Question: Do they manually have to check FTC price, or is all the info coming straight into the device?
Worth maybe sharing ideas with Franko? they are working on a (coin changeable) ATM, just a thought :-X
-
Price is retrieved real time from api.feathercoin.com at the start of every transaction.
Who are Franco?
Just had a pile more hardware turn up so hopefully can run a couple of devices side by side from next week to see how the bug fixes are going.

fyrputt,
I need to do the maths to find a total cost, also need to weigh the casing so I can work out how much plastic goes into it from the printer.
Assembly takes about 2 hours start to finish once all the bits are gathered together, as for testing I’ll work out a test script for each device once I have got the bugs out, but I should think something like a couple of transaction tests, an over night soak test of the hardware, complete charge/discharge of the battery etc should do it.
I like the sound of the idea for a complete package for the merchant, we have a couple of tame merchants in Oxford (pub, sandwich shop) that I intended to give these devices too, and then work from there once I had a bit of feed back on them.

Have had a meeting today with the battery company they have now been set the challenge of going out to find a battery that will give 8 - 10 hours of life and sit inside the device… Will keep you updated of progress

sweet cheers man!

Yes uncle muddy has written a walk through on how to set one up and code etc.

I know I am late for the party here but let me say:
uncle_muddy, you’re one of the biggest assets of FTC!!
This is simply terrific!!! Keep it up man!
-
cool device, it is open source right?
It isn’t yet but the plan is to make it open source when its ready for use. and as Kris has said there will be a full write up on it with code, 3D printer GCODE and everything you need to make one yourself :)

Cheers man, I might have a little project that someone has hinted that you are able to help me with… I’ll start a new thread on it when I have cleared up the ideas in my head a little

Thank you.
Just the thought occurred to me when I read this, Franko are working on an open source ATM just now, they have plans to install them in “Pawn shops” in the US. Feathercoin is to me, “British” at heart. You know, bit of tech share, support each others operation on the opposite sides of the Atlantic, meaning, FTC has greater availability in the US.
The sales device is great, but thinking about opportunities, you know, you take my FTC on your ATM’s (scratch my back) and we can allow you access to the sales device (we’ll scratch yours)??
Sorry, just throwing you guys ideas, maybe been covered elsewhere already

I haven’t had a chance to look at the franco ATM thing yet, me being lazy I know but could you provide a link? I have the next version of the FTC ATM in the planning but need to get one or two other things finished 1st

Twitter FTW, so no actual link, they are still working on it. Bryce Weiner is sponsoring the project.
But it’s basically a modified … http://projectskyhook.com/
Edit: I researched building a BTC ATM, because Scotland is a desolate landscape for Crypto, the options you can tag onto a couple of Raspberry Pi’s is amazing, CC readers, bio-metric readers, all sorts of gadgets. Most pieces like that you could pick up for $100-150, I think the whole thing in total was around £450 to build, but I lack the programming so I shelved the idea.
Case was the biggest challenge I came across, getting one fabricated (cheaply) which I found wasn’t easy

I might move this over to it’s own thread a bit later on as I think you may be onto something, but I don’t have the bandwidth at the moment…

Good news…
My dev has finally got the hardware I sent him today :) so hopefully we can make some faster progress on this now. I’m just wrapping up the build instructions, schematic diagrams and code for him now

I spy major opportunities… http://youtu.be/WAX1pb9nhSk
Combine the hand device with an ATM that can accept CC’s and you guys have a major advantage over all the other coins bar BTC
