Samsung announced Monday the launch of a new smartphone based on its own operating system, in a step towards independence from the Google Android platform that dominates its popular handsets.
Samsung worked with Intel to develop the Linux-based Tizen platform which is open-sourcedâ€"meaning hardware manufacturers that adopt it can freely tinker with the interface.
Tizen is the platform for Samsung’s Gear 2 smartwatch launched in February, but the Samsung Z will be the first phone to use the operating system.
There is therefore an opening to port the feathercoin mobile wallet to new Tizen operating system. I was really impressed by the wiki and web pages which have excellent guides to all aspects of software development.
Tizen is a GNU / Linux system, so it is a really interesting open source alternative to Google’s Android. The technology looks HTML5 and therefore modern and interesting.
The main downside may be take up and compatibility but the experience with Bada & the Samsung / Intel co-operation is positive.
If there is any interest I’ll pin it as a main Dev project.
