Merchant Addoption
-
As you have probably guessed I’m big on pushing merchant adoption of feathercoin, I would like nothing more than to be able to buy everything I need using my feathers!
Through adoption we create demand, and through demand we give FTC more worth and we all know what comes with worth!!
So my plan is to create a range of very simple to use merchant tools, the sort of thing the man or woman on the street can use in everyday life to simply allow them to start excepting feathercoin within the business be it for goods or services.
I have already started with featherPay the handheld PoS, which I will continue to develop and hope to have v1.0 out and ready to be tested in a live environment within the next 4 weeks :)
Having spoken to ChrisJ over the last few days and with the assistance of iawgoM yesterday I got round to modifying the code for a very simple PoS web page that can be used by anyone to enable them to easily take payments in FTC via QR Code scanning. I know how you lot love your pictures so here are some screen shots…

The splash screen advertising that FTC are accepted

The transaction screen

The payment screen
The steps to carry out a transaction are again very simple:-
- Tap the splash screen to load the “transaction” screen
- Enter the amount in GBP, (other currencies are available) and then tap the “Generate QR Code” button
- The QR Code is displayed on the “payment” screen ready for scanning by the customer
- Tap the “New Transaction” button to return to the splash screen, rinse and repeat
Thats all there is to it, the current rate of exchange is pulled from api.feathercoin.com
**So where do we take it next? **
Thats where you lot come in :) I would like to setup something similar to coinmap.org where we can add brinks and mortar business that are excepting feathercoin as a method of payment. The source code is available on git and other coins are already working on modifying it for their coins so we need to get on with this.
I have web space and I’m not afraid to use it :) so all I’m asking for you guys to do is help get it set-up I don’t have the skills or the time at the moment as I want to push on with the PoS and a couple of other projects I have in my head.
Once I have this, I want to build a whole site around shopping with FTC, with the map, merchant tools, etc… but I will need to come back to you on that one as there are way to many ideas in my head at the moment :)
So who is in??
UM
go on scan that code and send some coins you know you want to :)

Looking to build an online interactive map of merchants?
-
Thats part of the plan Ruthie :)
It’s no good these people accepting feathercoin if no one knows about it, but I want it to work in the same way as coinmap so people can add themselves to the map
-
A Little like this feathercoin map but with just merchants?
Although looks like that maps needs fixing up as the options to add are no longer there :/
-
Seriously, only 4 Scots?
I’m living among prehistoric amoebas :o

Yes similar to that, but the free version from google does not give you the freedom to do what I’m after hence going down the same route as coin map have done.

Woww!! Me too, me too! I wan to play the FTC Risk!
You can conquer a flag in Japan (which is still no man’s land) if you explain me how to get in there! ;D
Seriously, UM… I think I may do something here, yes. Just went quickly through the source and it does seem to be close to my programming skills (which is almost zero, BTW). What are you planning? Just a FTC makeup? Or do you want some (many) feats added?

Great news :)
Just an FTC version of it for now, I don’t want to get to technical at this point. Maybe follow the same pattern that they have with
payment:feathercoin=yes
or something very similar, I need to lets the cogs turn for a little longer but that would be a great place to start if you can

I’m quite busy lately because here they’re making me sweat for my PhD. Way too much, I may say.
Anyway, I’ll give it a shot and if the modifications are something “easy” I’ll fork it and modify it for FTC.
First of all I’ll try to go through the source…

Anything you can do to help man would be appreciated, this bit is beyond me and I really don;t have the time to learn it at the moment.

UM,
I’m on the source right now… it looks like a more or less easy task to me! However! There’s a big issue in the way: I cloned the repo and, once realized how it was working, I run the update python app. It fails miserably on a vanilla install. Quite disappointing.
I opened an issue on the github and let’s see what I will get as a reply.
If I can fix this issue, I will probably be able to modify it for FTC without many problems.
I’m an incurable optimist… O0

Update: I managed to make it work for Feathercoin right now!
I’ll get on the icons as soon as I can. It would be nice to have the svg of the symbol or some suggestions for a simplified one.
Let’s get this done fast :)
-
That’s great news man :) yes I’m on it already. Just prepping a site for it to sit on, I’ll speak to Bush later about the best way to integrate this into the feathercoin world.
Many many thanks for your help, post an address up id like to send you a beer for your time.

Don’t rush… I’m still tweaking it! Wait until you see the final product! ;)
I’ll concentrate on this to see if I can set up a git repo so you will be able to clone it. Maybe this evening? Not sure…
In addition I’ll have to write a small readme to explain how to use it.
-
Any progress in fantastic news my friend :) I’m a bit busy myself of late as have RL work to do and things at home are getting a little hectic.
I’ll start talks and see where we get as would be great to have everything setup and ready for when you are instead of having to wait around to decide what to do with your hard work

Here we are!
https://github.com/voingiappone/feathercoinmap
FeatherCoinMap is on Github! Clone it on a webserver an let me know if you like it!
I’ll further edit the Readme file to serve as a small how-to with the instructions for updating the database (a simple task that was driving me crazy at the beginning due to lack of information).
Couple of notes:
-
removed the multi-language support. English is enough and my language skills will only suffice for Italian, Spanish and Japanese (well, for Spanish we also have Xonar ;) )
-
maybe a glitch but sometimes the info-box at the bottom refuses to close. Don’t know why.
-
The shadow icon (the “pin” on the map) and the background are original desingns (svg files inculded). FTC logo is the official.
-
I’ve inserted a couple of dummy places on the map (guess where they are?!?). Will remove them when the testing is over. I was however very surprised to find TWO other venues with the tag properly set before we even start talking about this project. Forum members?
Well, that’s all… for now!
Comments please!
Oh! A screensot!

This is great work and many thanks :)
I have not been as productive today on FTC as I hoped so no server ready for it just yet but I’ll see what I can get sorted over the next couple of days and defo by the weekend.
-
voingiappone - Thanks for the hard work you’ve put into this :)

UM (and all those interested in trying the code), it just take a couple of minutes to install a web server on your pc. When I don’t have time to fiddle and I just want a bare-bone working environment I install lampp. I wrote it in the Readme.md on github, but you probably already know that ;)
voingiappone - Thanks for the hard work you’ve put into this :)
You’re welcome! Happy to be (finally) of some help for FTC.
BTW, I wasn’t really in the right mood for my reasearch today!! Better to do something productive! >:D
