This was really nifty how they did this.It took less than than the target time to get to the next difficulty adjust so the difficulty should have gone up. Haha well, the attacker(s) helped get us a lot of attention, now we must capitalize on that attention. Plus, they have not achieved their goal, Feathercoin is still alive and kicking.

We really should capitalize on that! Not many coins survived such attacks.
“51% attack” sounds pretty cool for some media noobs. Maybe they can write a story about that - and mention “Feathercoin” a few times.

Nonsense, the BTC block chain explorer has IP and Whois information for every transaction, is just that the feature has been omitted from the FTC explorer.
[/quote]It can be implemented, but I doubt it’s going to help us. Block orphaning isn’t illegal. I know the attackers took their hash rate from the Litecoin network. It can be narrowed down to particular pools and maybe even particular top miners. We cannot terrorise them, they cannot destroy us, so let’s live with it. More we succeed, more they suffer.

As we come through this, it should prove to people that you may knock it, but it’s not going down that fast. So many people waving their arms and yelling that it’s all over… they’ll be hushed up when the air clears.

The only way you will catch them is if someone who is involved, was involved or was part of a group decides to brag about it , then maybe you will figure it out. Someone able to pull this off may have a huge farm(s) in a data center(s) somewhere on a anonymous proxy.
With a lot of GPU farms becoming open from asics being released I would say expect some people to have some free hash time to expend.

I’ve been talking to Bushstar throughout the day on possible solutions. I look forward to touching base with him later tomorrow. Mitigating these attacks is priority 1, everything else is basically on hold.

He said he could do this because he is building and has arrays of Fusion ASICs running at 200KH a chip and that the budget for this project is $3.2 billion. Eventually they are going to send the send the Bitcoin difficulty up by a factor of ten.
The most likely explanation is that this is complete rubbish :)

[/quote]Indeed. Scrypt ASICs at 200KH/s per chip, 3.2 milliard USD budget… Who is going to provide them with such a huge investment? What’s the profit if they succeed in taking down all major cryptos?

IPtables wont stop a DDoS on this or any other site.
All you need is a few botnets mashing the page refresh and the DB server will crap itself. Or have the same botnets send extended pings and the wan links will flood etc.
True DDoS protection (if there is such a thing) costs 100s to 1000s per month.

Any more of these around? Really interesting to see that.
I have a huge suspicion that the market is being heavily manipulated by a few big players and this only shows that to be possibly true. Since everything is easily anonymized you can work together with groups of other individuals and completely manipulate the market. A coin like FTC offers huge gains since you can buy a much larger quantity vs BTC or other coins. I am really surprised no one severely pumped CNC since you could make enormous amounts on it.
