Getting started with gpuminer

Linux: Get the program
- download latest version from github here.
- extract the zip file into an empty directory.
Linux: Compile the program (Detailed build FAQ coming soon)
- change into that directory anr run 'autogen.sh'
- correct any errors that may be show. Typically some build tools may be missing.
- run 'make' and optional 'make install' as root.
Run cgminer
- run "cgminer --neoscrypt -o http://<poolname>:<pool port> -O <your wallet address>:<any password>" *without the "quotes"

Windows: Get the program
- either follow the steps for Linux and use mingw to compile the program or download the precompiled .exe file from any of these links:

FAQ

Q: What is the best way to start mining Neoscrypt?
A: Start with a minimal configuration file or no configuration file and use the autotuning feature of cgminer to determine the best settings.
A sample config file is attached to this post. Adjust the pool names/usernames to your needs.
Q: Is it possible to use a backup pool in case the pool I use is down?
A: Yes, is is possible to specify the -o and -O option several times to use another pool, if the first one specified is not reachable. The attached config file also shows how to archive a redundant pool connection.
Q: Do I need to specify environment variables to run cgminer?
A: No, setting of environment varariables, e.g GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS and GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT did not show any increase in hashrate during the initial tests
Q: Can I use cgminer for CPU mining?
A: Yes, specifiy the '--opencl-all-devices' command line parameter
Q: I get an Error message when starting cgminer:

A: This is a known bug while parsing the config file. Cgminer will work without problems. The error will be fixed in one of the next releases of cgminer

Q: I get the following error when starting cgminer:







Unable to open neoscrypt140909.cl or ./neoscrypt140909.c

 [2014-09-30 18:05:12] Failed to init GPU thread 0, disabling device 0
 [2014-09-30 18:05:12] Restarting the GPU from the menu will not fix this.
 [2014-09-30 18:05:12] Try restarting cgminer.

A: copy the file neoscrypt140909.cl from directory you used to compile cgminer into the directory you use to start cgminer
