First ever print on my 3D printer

Not perfect, but not bad for my first ever time at desigining a 3D print and my first ever time using my printer, doing nothing other than levelling the print bed and just using default settings

Love the background texture. Why am I seeing that hanging from a rearview mirror? Would be great I may put in an order :)

Once I have got the print to something I am happy with the plan is to use that as a pattern to make a Silicon RTC mould so I can cast them in pewter.

I am also dabbling with the idea of filling the low part with a coloured resin (maybe black) to make the pewter ring and feather really stand out.

I am going to redo the 3D model to try and improve the print in the next week or so.

                Could you pour silver?

I have cast silver, but I have to keep it small.

Another option is silver precious metal clay that can be worked like clay, so you just press it into a mould and once it is dried you fire it up to around 1100C (I think not sure of exact temperature) and it burns out the organic binders and the silver particles bond together and you end up with 99.99% pure silver.

I do still have 20 or so grams of silver PCM so was thinking of trying that out too.

Using silver PCM makes it more expensive to make material wise, but I don’t need to make a mould capable of holding molten silver then

Yes I can print in many colours, but all the other colours are wrapped up under the Christmas tree at the moment. :)

As my printer has a dual head I can easily print in 2 colours, and with a bit of effort more than two.

But I can only print in PLA, ABS or Nylon, but the prints can be used as masters to make moulds to easily cast in pewter too.

                            Slightly improved second version.

                            31.5mm diameter and 5mm thick.

I think I may redo it though and join the rim of the hole for the keyjoin with the rim of the coin as I think that will look a bit better.

The lattice pattern you see is the fill inside the coin, not a pattern on its surface and when I cast it that will be gone, just the fine texture showing the lines of the extrusion will remain.

I am also debating if I should fill the holow with black resin to make the pewter on the rim and the feather stand out more.

It would be cool if you were able to do this in dual colors, make the feather black and the rest of the coin in whatever color you like or if you sale it whatever color the customer likes. I’m very interested in the 3D printers myself.

Dual colour is possible as I have a dual head printer alhough I have yet to try 2 colour prints as I’m still learning all the trick with the printer, although I plan to cast them in pewter and I’m toying with the idea of filling in the areas around the feather with a black resin and then buffing up the front of it, but it will be a few weeks before I get that far.
