      Hello everyone:

I am new to this forum and my reason is the need for help in installing the latest wallet of Feathercoin.

Previously I had installed the version 0.8.5, but not used in a while and now that proceeded to upgrade to version 0.8.7.1 I have the problem that the antivirus blocks the installation indicates the presence of TR / BitcoinMiner virus.

      What should I do?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I have also had this issue as the wallet does include a mining application that was built into the wallet for CPU mining before GPU mining became popular. Its turned off now (i believe) which is why its not visable.

I would simply allow the install and override your antivirus. As long as you downloaded the new miner from the official www.Feathercoin.com website the code is safe and there are no malicious entities of any kind.

I hope this helps. Good luck Kris

Thanks for the answer and proceeded to install the upgrade wallet, but need to add in my antivirus exceptions Feathercoin-qt.

Should solve that problem because even a false positive is not feeling well that my wallet generate virus alert. The virus is something to avoid at all costs when you work with crypto currencies.

          My antivirus is Avira

We have sent the files to a number of antivirus companies with proof its not a virus. They have decided that any mining software is a virus and essentially ignored our requests. The code is fully open source and your welcome to build the wallet from source if you have any doubts about the downloaded binary.

Download the wallet and also the AVG Antivirus detects it as a virus (IDP.Trojan.2146F9AO) and I can not install without using exceptions antivirus function. Really please correct this.

Unfortunately that is an issue with 99% of all crypto wallets and is unavoidable to the best of my knowladge. Sorry.

I wonder if we could remove the miner software in the next release see if this helps.

That would probably help. If it’s flagging the mining software in it, then taking it out might just put an end to those problems. I just got Norton today, and I’ve already noticed that it’s flagged a mining program on my laptop. I think that one was Bitcoin related however. I don’t plan on using that for mining, since it’s my newer everyday one, but it’d be nice if the flagging could be stopped.

The pos code would also raise the virus flag as its very similar to mining.

He’s right. PoS IS mining. It uses the exact same code in fact to find the nonce. The difference is that it also requires coins, so difficulty can be kept incredibly low so CPUs can do it trivially WHEN coins are available to do so. Difficulty then adjusts based upon the number of coins mining, NOT the amount of hardware mining.

Yeah “TR / BitcoinMiner virus” says it all. Its detected as MALWARE. Mostly because of apps like uTorrent bundling miners with thier apps we havent been able to get off of the malware list on the antivirus pages.Same for bitcoin, yada yada currency… Surely the legitimate software is harmless.
